Loving and devoted husband and father, Howard B. Borel, Jr., age 92, of Spring Hill Road, Laceyville, PA passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 15, 2015 at his home.
He was born in Vincentown, NJ on February 24, 1923 the son of the late Howard B. and Bessie Brown Borel, Sr. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 596th S.A.W. Battalion attached to the 5th Air Force. He entered the service in February 1943 serving in the South Pacific Area as a Medic. Between January 1944 and January 1946 he took part in three invasions.
Howard along with his brother Raymond established their own contracting company, H&R Borel Builders, in 1951. He began the business in New Jersey then moved to Pennsylvania in the summer of 1971. He continued working as a carpenter until he retired in 1984.
He was an avid antique car buff, collecting numerous antique cars throughout the years. He took great pride in his lawn and gardens and he still used a 1974 Wheel Horse tractor to manicure his lawn. He loved his three horses and his pet rooster.
Howard is survived by his wife, Anne C. Borel, to whom he would have celebrated his 68th wedding anniversary in November; his children Howard "Buddie" Borel, III and wife Rosemary of Nevada City, CA, Mark Borel and wife Joanne of Beverly Hills, FL, Stephen Borel of Meshoppen, PA, Anne Marie Bluhm and husband Keith of Laceyville, PA, Michael Borel and wife Lisa of Wyalusing, PA, Mary Anne Zaner and husband John of Laceyville, PA, and Rose Mary Borel of Lake Carey, PA; 21 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister Doris Ward of Delran, NJ. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a great-grandson Chad Anthony Watson, brother Raymond H. Borel, sister Betty Hunter, and father and mother in law Alex and Anna Cosky.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's of the Assumption Church on Thursday September 24, 2015 at 10:00 AM with Father Joseph Manarchuck officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joachim's Cemetery in Meshoppen, PA with a Military Honor service conducted by the members of Rought Hall Post # 510 American Legion, Black Walnut, PA, Dennis Strong Post # 457 American Legion, Tunkhannock, PA and the Endless Mountains Post # 3583 V.F.W., Mehoopany, PA. Family and friends may call at Sheldon Funeral Homes, 155 Church St., Wyalusing, PA on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 8:00 PM.
