Obituary

James "Jim" S. Suessenbach, Jr., age 65, passed away unexpectedly at his home in New Albany on Saturday morning, March 9, 2024.

Born on April 11, 1958, he was the son of Florence Picciano Suessenbach and the late James Suessenbach, Sr.  Growing up, Jim was a volunteer with the Montrose, NY Fire Department and was responsible for building many of the booths used for their fundraisers, carnivals, and other various events.

After graduating high school, Jim attended the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, graduating in 1980 with a Bachelor's of Science and becoming a Chemical Engineer.  While attending college, Jim was a member of the Kappa Phi Delta Business Fraternity where he would serve as their Chapter President.  After gaining employment with Proctor & Gamble in Mehoopany, PA and then GTP in Towanda, PA, he decided to retire in 2015 and return to school at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, where he would earn his Associates of Science degree and become a Paralegal.  He then started his own company, Covey Hill Enterprises where he processed hemp to produce CBD oil.

Outside of work, Jim was a skilled craftsman, building the house that he shared with his wife, Gina Crawford Suessenbach, in New Albany, complete with his own machine shop in the basement.  For a time, there was also lavender patch outside that Jim farmed as part of Covey Hill Lavender, another company he formed.  He was also fond of building scaled replicas, particularly his model trains and planes.

Along with his wife and mother, Jim is survived by his son, Joseph Suessenbach of Jersey City, NJ; his step-son, Justin Griffith of New Albany, PA; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Erven and June Allen Crawford; his brothers-in-law, Jeff Crawford (Jan) of Lawrenceville, PA and Ted Gatto of New Albany, PA; his nephews, Logan and Noah Crawford as well as several cousins.

Preceding Jim in death, along with his father, is his sister-in-law, Penny Crawford Gatto (d. Oct. 15, 2014).

A private committal service for Jim will be held at the convenience of the family.
