James "Jim" Walter Huffman, age 56, of Sugar Run, PA went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 29, 2018 after an unfortunate tractor accident.
Jim was born on November 25, 1961 in Towanda, PA the son of the late John Levi (d. March, 2017) and Patricia Ann Potter Huffman (d. August, 2006).
He married the love of his life, Gayle Cruikshank, on July 21, 1990. Together they raised three amazing daughters and built a family together in which there could be no stronger bond. Jim was an extremely loving and devoted husband, and made sure that his wife knew just how much he loved her each and every day. The love he had for his wife and daughters will be cherished as such a sweet memory.
He was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School with the class of 1980. He received his Bachelors Degree in Art and Studio Art from Bloomsburg University and his Teachers Degree from Lycoming College in 1987. After graduating from Lycoming College he began his dedicated career at the Wyalusing Area School District as an Art teacher and then moved to teaching 6 th grade until his retirement until 2017. Jim was very involved with the school. He was the head football coach of the junior high program for many years and became the varsity football coach from 2007-2012. He currently was coaching with his wife, Gayle, the high school volleyball team. He was very proud of all of his accomplishments as a coach, including NTL title in football in 2009 and District IV title in volleyball in 2014, but most importantly he was proud to guide his student athletes be better people.
Jim was a member of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church and Trustee for the church. He was an Eagle Scout with Troup 8 in Wyalusing. He was a member of the PA Football Coaches Association, the Wyalusing Extra Point Club and the Hall of Fame Club. He took great pride in coordinating the annual sixth-grade Salute to Veterans' luncheon held at the Wyalusing Elementary School. He enjoyed watching Penn State football, the Kansas City Chiefs, and all of the Wyalusing sports events. Jim thoroughly enjoyed farming. Most of all he loved his family and cherished the moments he spent with them, whether it would be sitting around a campfire, following his daughters' activities, or joking around with them. He will be missed by many and will always be remembered by how he thought of everyone else first and was always there to help out with a huge smile on his face. Everyone who met Jim, knew how big his heart was and made a lasting impression on our community.
Jim is survived by his wife, Gayle Huffman; his daughters, Kacey Huffman (Bobby Bures) of Cleveland, OH, Erika Huffman of Sugar Run, PA, and Karlye Huffman of Sugar Run, PA; his siblings, Donald (Anita) Huffman of Ocean Springs, MS and Dawn (Charles, Jr.) Nichols of Lime Hill, PA; his step-mother, Mary Jane Heim of Wilmot Twp., PA; his mother/father-in-law, Ruth and Richard Bedard of Sugar Run, PA; his aunts, Edna Morse of Camptown, PA, Thressa Speanburgh of Phelps, NY, and Lucretia Way of Hollenback, PA; his sister-in-laws, Connie (Ric) Knapp of Foxpoint, WI and Alison Lang of Downingtown, PA; his nieces and nephews, Diana and Joel Nichols, Kevin Jr. and Brady Lang, and Lexi and Robby Abrahamian; as well as many cousins, friends, and students.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Archie Cruikshank, and many aunts and uncles.
Funeral services for Jim will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM from the Wyalusing United Methodist Church with Reverend Heather Baker-McAllister of the church officiating. Interment will follow at the Wyalusing Borough Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church St., Wyalusing on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 and at the church on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 10:00 until the time of the service.
