Obituary

Jane Mary Gallagher McGee, 80, West Auburn, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 with her family by her side.

Jane was born on March 6, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of the late Daniel James Gallagher and Catherine Genevieve (nee Lavery) Gallagher. She was a graduate of Archbishop Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill, PA with the class of 1963.

On January 22, 1966, Jane married the love of her life, Peter J. McGee, with whom she shared many wonderful years until his passing on February 9, 2023. Together, they built a loving family and created countless cherished memories.

Jane dedicated much of her professional life to serving others through her work as the Financial Business Manager for the Elk Lake School District, from which she retired in 2001. After retirement Jane spent several years working for the Rocket Courier, and she continued to help members of her community by preparing individual income taxes for local residents and generously volunteering her time to assist the elderly with their tax preparations for many years.

A woman of deep faith, Jane was a devoted member of Beaver Meadows Church, which she lovingly considered her second home. She taught Sunday School, participated in the Ladies Aid, and found great joy in being part of her church family. She also volunteered with Hunts for Healing.

Jane found happiness in the simple pleasures of life and, above all, in the time she spent with her family. She loved cooking for her loved ones and was an excellent baker, always ready to share something delicious from her kitchen. She enjoyed crocheting, and reading a verity of different genres. Browsing flea markets for treasures—was a pastime she affectionately called “junking”—and sitting outside with her beloved cat. She treasured traveling with her husband, Pete, and especially loved babysitting her grandchildren and watching her family grow.

She is survived by her children, Peter J. McGee III and his wife, Donica, of Lawton, PA, Jennifer McGee-Merring and her husband, Jim, of New Milford, PA and Christopher McGee and his wife, Courtney Emmons-McGee, of Montrose, PA; her grandchildren, Peter J. McGee IV and his wife, Emily of Friendsville, PA; Daniel McGee and his wife, Felicia of York, PA; Jaclyn Susz of Stroudsburg, PA; Jordan Merring of Tannersville, PA; C.J. McGee of Montrose, PA; and June McGee of Montrose, PA. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Micah Cole Ally, Harper Jane McGee, and Rory Mae McGee. Jane is also survived by her brother, Hugh Gallagher and his wife, Debbie, of Milmont Park, PA; her sister-in-law, Linda Burkle and her husband, Richard, of Erma, NJ; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Peter, and her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her sisters, Rosemary McLaughlin and Kathleen Lombardo, and her brother, Daniel Gallagher.
