Obituary

Jane Ciprich Ryan, age 71, of Black Walnut, PA passed away at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center on Thursday morning, May 21, 2026, after a short battle with cancer and a 63 year struggle with Type 1 diabetes.

Born in Meshoppen, PA on August 5, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Ignatius (d. November 26, 1988) and Geraldine Cook Ciprich (d. November 19, 2016). Jane attended Wyalusing Valley High School and graduated from there in 1972. After high school, she continued her scholastic journey at Keystone College where she would earn an Associates Degree and followed that with a Bachelors Degree from Wilkes University, before finally earning her Masters Degree in Health Administration from the University of Scranton.

After receiving her Masters, Jane began her career with Tyler Memorial Hospital, serving as the Director of Medical Records there. After 23 years of employment with Tyler, she decided to take the same position with Allied Services in Scranton for the next 22 years before retiring. Jane was such a valued employee with Allied, that they talked her into staying with them for an extra year as a consultant. She was also an educator, teaching Medical Records Terminology for 2 years at a trade schools in Kingston and Pittston.

She was a dedicated member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish where she served as the organist for St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Wyalusing for 56 years. She was a charter member of the Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association (PHIMA), where she would hold every office within the organization during her time there. Jane also served her community as Braintrim Township’s Judge of Elections for many years.

When not working or serving her community, Jane enjoyed powerlifting. She participated in the sport for many years, competing at the Keystone State Games where she finished second.

Jane is survived by her husband of 53 years, Eugene “Shorty” Ryan of Black Walnut, PA; her children, Jennifer Cavanaugh of West Deptford, New Jersey and Michael Ryan (Amy) of Black Walnut, PA; her grandchildren, Emily, Matthew, and Madison Ryan; and his siblings, Tom Ciprich (Janet) of Sayre, PA, Judy Graham (Wheel), of Seattle, WA, and Robert Ciprich of Covington, KY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Jane at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church, 245 State St. Wyalusing, PA 18853 on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at 11:00 AM with Father Jose Joseph Kuriappilly of the Church officiating. Interment will follow the service at St. Joachims Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday evening, May 26, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St., Laceyville, PA 18623. Recitation of the Rosary will take place on Tuesday at 6:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janes name to the American Diabetes Association at American Diabetes Association.
