Obituary

Janet Young passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday August 26, 2023.  She was a resident of The Gardens, Tunkhannock, PA.

Born in Meshoppen, PA on July 6, 1929, she was preceded in death by her father and mother Lloyd E. Fassett (d. 1983) and Freida E. (Bunnell) Fassett (D 1999), her Sister June (Robinson) Atti (D. 1995), her spouse Joseph Atti (D. 1992) brothers Howard Robinson (D. 1995), Robert Fassett (D. 2003) and Donald Fassett (D. 2014).

Janet is survived by son Terry and spouse Georgia (Dack) Young, (Dover, DE), their sons Kristen, (Seattle, WA) and Eric (Smyrna, DE) and her great grandsons Brent and Braden.  She is also survived by son Jerry and spouse Cathy (Domasiewicz), (Meshoppen, PA) and grandsons, Jerry Peter (Downingtown, PA) and his spouse, MaryAnn and son Jason Young (Meshoppen, PA).

She graduated from Meshoppen High School Class of 1949 participating in the Glee and Sports clubs.  Nicknamed "Skeeter" she played on the girls basketball team.   Janet was married to Edmund "Chip" Young (d. 2009) of Laceyville on February 29, 1948.

Janet grew up at Myo Beach Fassett farm.  After marrying she lived in Vosburg, Meshoppen, Terrytown and Tunkhannock PA.  Janet was the former co-owner of the Bridge Restaurant with her aunt, Dorothy Radlein (d.2008).  She then co-owned the Meshoppen Diner with Jerry and Cathy Young until her retirement.  Janet is remembered for conversing from the kitchen as her friends arrived for coffee.  Most of those friends would order her famous large cinnamon buns or the very large sugar cookies selling out as soon as were out of the oven.  She loved watching her bird feeders attract a variety of northeastern PA songbirds and was quite a horticulturist, nurturing a large variety of flowers through the years and lately, a few remarkably growing indoor plants.

Janet was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan never missing a televised game. Her delight was evident when the Phills made it to the playoffs then won the World Series in 1980 and 2008.

She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church of Meshoppen.
