Joan Marie Caswell, age 87, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away on December 29, 2015 at the Skilled Nursing Unit at Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital where she resided for the past year.
Born on March 11, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY, she grew up in the New Albany, PA area and was the daughter of late Ralph and Pauline Capwell Mosier.
Joan was a graduate of New Albany High School with the Class of 1946. She worked as a telephone operator and bank teller in Dushore, PA before marriage. In her younger years, she was a member of the New Albany Baptist Church and sang in their choir. She married Robert Caswell, Jr. on April 21, 1957 and became a housewife and mother. In addition, she babysat dozens of Wyalusing area children for many years. Joan liked to bake and crafted many beautiful Christmas stockings, decorations, and ornaments for friends and family over the years. She loved her pet cats and treasured her collection of dolls. She and Bob enjoyed taking many bus trips after his retirement in 1989.
Joan was a member of the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Fidelis Club in the 1960's and 1970's.
Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her husband, Bob, after 57 years of marriage on January 18, 2015. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Caswell of Elmira, NY, and son and daughter-in-law, David and Maryellen Caswell of Port Matilda, PA, grandchildren Michael and Meghan Caswell of Port Matilda, PA, sister, Janet Dempsey of Tunkhannock, PA, along with nephews and cousins. Joan was also very blessed with wonderful neighbors and friends in the Wyalusing community who did so much for her and Bob.
The family would like to thank the amazing nurses and aides at the Skilled Nursing Unit at Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital for taking such wonderful care of Joan, as well as the Guthrie Hospice staff, the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church community, and Joan's devoted and generous neighbors.
