Obituary

John L. Collins, Jr., age 67, of Meshoppen, PA passed away Wednesday morning, November 5, 2014 at the Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock, PA.

He was born August 9, 1947 the son of the late John L. Collins, Sr. and Kathryn Kelley Collins who resides in Meshoppen with the Collins family. He graduated from Dunmore High School with the class of 1965.

After high school, John served his country in the US Army until 1971 then was employed at RCA. He enrolled to Radiology school at Moses Taylor Hospital in 1973. Upon graduation he moved to Meshoppen and was employed at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock for 28 years.

John was adjutant of Rought Hall Post # 510 American Legion in Black Walnut, PA where he ran the BINGO. He was a member and Commander of Dennis Strong Post # 457 American Legion in Tunkhannock, PA. He was a member of the Tunkhannock Moose Lodge # 1276, as well as the Meshoppen Volunteer Fire Company in the 1970's. His passions in life were being a Police Officer in Tunkhannock Borough, Meshoppen Borough, and Chief of Police in Mehoopany, PA. He was a Federal Firearms Licensed Dealer and loved his gun smith business.

John is survived by his wife of 35 years, Eileen Harvey Collins of Meshoppen, his children Jason Collins and wife Aubrie of Dunmore, PA and Shannon Collins Evans and husband Brandon of Meshoppen, PA, three grandchildren Destiny, Damion, and Felix, his mother Kathryn Kelley Collins, as well as many sister/brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. He was a great man, father, grandfather that will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Tunkhannock Moose Lodge #1276. Interment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family at the Cathedral Cemetery in Dunmore, PA.
