John Levi Huffman, age 85, of Wilmot, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Towanda Memorial Hospital.
John was born on September 22, 1931 in Wilmot Township, PA, the son of the late John Walter, who passed in October of 1989, and Bertha Huffmaster Huffman, who passed away in August of 1990. He graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School with the Class of 1949. His first wife was the former Patricia Ann Potter, the couple was married on May 22, 1954 and the couple was married for 52 years until her passing in August of 2006. He married his second wife, Mary Jane Heim on April 12, 2008. John grew up and worked on his family farm for all of his life until March of 1993 when he sold his cows. He was also a bus driver for Wyalusing Valley for 44 years.
John was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, in which he served many capacities including acolyte, counsel, and trustee. He was the Master for the Wilmot Grange #512, as well as the assistant scout master for Troop 8 in Wyalusing for many years. John was very active in the community as he was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was a practical joker that enjoyed bowling, square dancing, hunting, and fishing. He loved his family very much and told his sister that he had a wonderful life with two wonderful wives, and wonderful grandchildren.
Besides his wife of 9 years, Mary Jane Heim, of Wilmot, John is survived by his children Donald Huffman and his wife Anita of Ocean Springs, MS; James Huffman and his wife Gayle of Sugar Run, PA; and Dawn Nichols and her husband Charles Jr. of Wyalusing, PA; grandchildren Kacey Huffman of Cleveland OH; Erika Huffman of Sugar Run, PA; Karlye Huffman of Sugar Run, PA; Diana Nichols of Lime Hill, PA; and Joel Nichols of Lime Hill, PA. He is also survived by his sisters Edna Morse of Camptown, PA; Thressa Speanburgh of Phelps, NY; Lucretia Way of Hollenback, PA; great-aunt Ruth Touschner of Elmira, NY; brother-in-law Floyd (Beverly) Heim; sister-in-law Arlene Wertman; brother-in-law Jack Weston; sister-in-law Verna Smith; special niece and nephew Brent and Barb Tessier and their children Bradley and Bailey; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents and first wife Patricia, John was preceded in death by his sister Loraine Fenton; sister Fern Denniston; and infant sister Rita Mae Huffman.
Funeral services for John will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 12:00 noon at the St. John's Lutheran Church with Reverend Phyllis Pelletier of the church officiating. Interment will follow at the St. John's Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
