Born on May 2, 1945, John R. Slawnyk grew up in the neighborhoods of Philadelphia, PA.  He was a member of DAV after serving his country with pride during the Vietnam War.  John enjoyed the trades and became a proud member of the Local Union where he was employed for many years as a union carpenter.  Formerly from Northeast Philadelphia, John relocated to Wyalusing, PA with his wife, Elizabeth Slawnyk, where they enjoyed the country life.

John passed away on June 25, 2024 from heart complications at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.  Along with his spouse of 46 years, Elizabeth, John is leaving behind and will be missed by his 4 children, Andrea, Margaret (Nick), Frank, and Christine (William).  His memory will be carried on by his 11 grandchildren and his siblings, Richie and Frannie Slawnyk.

A memorial service for John will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024 at 2:00 PM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church St., Wyalusing, PA 18853, and officiated by Reverend Charles Bishop of the Transue and Elk Lake Community Churches.  A Military Honors Service will be performed by the Wyalusing American Legion Post #534.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
