John D. Spencer, age 84, of Silvara, PA, passed away on Wednesday evening, March 14, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on June 13, 1933, in Skinner's Eddy, PA, the son of the late Melvin E. and Catherine M. Repsher Spencer. On March 20, 1953, he married the former Betty A. Bullock and the couple was together for 64 years until her passing on January 19, 2018. The couple owned and operated Silvara Gun Shop for over 25 years through the 1960's, 70's, and 80's. They also sold Arctic Cat snowmobiles as well as Yamaha and Suzuki motorcycles at the gun shop. In the mid 1980's they also owned and operated Spencer's Furniture Store together.

John was the Tuscarora Township Supervisor from 1983 until 2000. He was President of the Township Officials Association from 1996 until 1998. He was a member of the Bradford County Sanitation Association for 25 years as well. He was a driver for the Laceyville Ambulance for a number of years and he also helped the Laceyville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company. He was a member of the Tri-County Sportsmen Club in Silvara, PA. He loved to hunt as well. John loved spending time at the Spencer Family Farm. He enjoyed mowing the lawn and listening to the hymn sings at the gazebo. John made it a habit to drive past the farm when he would go home.

John is survived by his daughter Susan Anderson and her husband George of Tunkhannock, PA; grandchildren Tracy Gates and her husband Christopher of Meshoppen, PA; Bill Anderson of Meshoppen, PA; great-grandchildren Hailee Anderson and Jordyn Gates; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers Floyd E. Spencer and Richard "Dick" D. Spencer.

By abiding to John's wishes there will be no funeral services or calling hours.
