Obit for Joseph Steven Fryer III (age 74)
Mr. Joseph Steven Fryer III, age 74 of Golden Hill Rd., Laceyville, PA. passed away on Sunday afternoon Feb. 24, 2013, at his home on Golden Hill; Windham twp., Wyoming Co., Pa. surrounded by his family.
Joe was born in Philadelphia, PA. on July 30,1938 the son of the late Joseph and Louise Siegrist Fryer II. Growing up in Philadelphia, Joe was a graduate of the John Bartram High School in Philadelphia, the class of 1957.
After his graduation from high school he served his country with the US Navy, from 1957 until 1959.
After his discharge from the service, Joe was employed with the John Wanamaker's Furniture Store, and he was later employed as a butcher at the A&P Grocery chain of stores near Philadelphia. After moving to the Laceyville area, he was employed by Arrow United in Wyalusing from 1976 until his retirement in 2000.
In his spare time, Joe enjoyed watching baseball and football, and after his retirement he just enjoyed his recliner in front of the fireplace. The last few years, he enjoyed his yearly trips to the western part of Pennsylvania, to watch the Elk.
Surviving is his wife of 37 years, the former Connie VanDeMark, to whom he married on Aug. 2,1975. His sons, Joseph Fryer IV, of Lancaster, PA.; Shawn (Jane) Fryer, of Corbin, KY; Travis (Brianna) Fryer of Jenningsville, PA.; and Shane (Michelle) Fryer, of Laceyville, PA, his grandchildren, Brigid Fryer, of Lancaster; Julian Schmidt, of Lancaster, PA.; Sarah and Joshua Fryer, of Corbin, KY; Brynn and Tristin Fryer of Jenningsville, PA.; Alexis Fryer of New Albany, PA.; and Kaylee and Jacob Fryer, of Laceyville, PA. Also a brother, John (MaryJane) Fryer of Ridley Park, PA; and his sisters, Kathy (Edward) German, of Hanover, PA.; and Elizabeth Wotypka of Upper Chester, PA., and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 2:00 PM from the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dolly Tarreto of the church officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
