Joseph "Joe" Kintner Potter, age 93, of Wyalusing, PA passed away on Wednesday evening, November 21, 2018 at the Wyalusing Valley Personal Care Home.

Joe was born on Sugar Hill in Sugar Run, PA on June 23, 1925, the only son and middle child of late Lewis and Susie Kintner Potter.  He attended the Sugar Hill one-room school and then graduated from Wyalusing High School with the Class of 1941.

Joe lived ninety of his ninety-three years on the Potter Family Century Farm established in 1872. He worked the dairy farm from an early age, taking full responsibility as a teenager for its operation. In 1966, Joe sold his cows and became one of Towanda Masonite Corporation's first employees, retiring in 1980 as wood yard superintendent. He also co-owned the Wyalusing Hotel with his nephew, Terry and Barb Keeney, and Joe worked there long after his retirement from Masonite.

As an adult, Joe played baseball and then softball, pitching in local leagues until he turned fifty. He fished, trapped, and bowled, but his greatest passion was hunting, bagging big bucks well into his eighties. His front porch provided a welcome place for neighbors and friends to sit a spell and solve the world's problems. When the cold PA winter winds blew, Joe would head to Motel 6 in Cocoa Beach, Florida, where he made several friends from around the country, who also stayed there each year.

Joe loved his family, his land, and his country. His passing marks the end to generations of dairy farmers who settled and worked their lands on Sugar Hill.  We will miss his first-person stories of the long ago.

Surviving are daughter Diane (Gary) Seymour of Sugar Run, sister Janet Logan of Wyalusing, grandson Tyler Seymour of Sugar Run, step-grandsons Sean and Nate Seymour and their families, and several nephews and nieces.

Joe was predeceased by his son, Lanny J. Potter in 1997 and by his sister D. Marie Keeney in 2015.

Memorial services for Joe will be held on Sunday, November 25, at 4:00 PM at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church Street, Wyalusing, PA with Pastor Heather Baker- McAllister of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church officiating.  Family and friends may call from 2:00 PM until the time of the service.
