Obituary

Joseph Stuart Rhubright Jr., age 83, of Laceyville, PA passed away on Saturday, April 15 at his home with his loving wife by his side.

Joseph was born on August 23, 1939 in Tamaqua, PA the son of the late Joseph S. (d. January 13, 2009) and Dorothy M. (d. April 20, 2007) Rhubright Sr. He was raised in Emmaus and graduated from Emmaus High School with the class of 1957. After high school he attended Goldey-Beacom business school in Wilmington, DE. He then served his country in the US Army from 1960-1962. He was stationed in Korea for one year before returning home.

After he left the Army, he was employed at First National Bank as an auditor in Allentown, PA. This is where he met the love of his life, Betty Jane Rubrecht. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year. They worked together at Tyler Memorial Hospital where he was a controller for several years. He retired from there in 1995.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 510 and VFW of Mehoopany. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, and going on jeep rides. He enjoyed spending time at his condo in Rehoboth Beach, DE with his wife and family. When you came to visit, he usually was watching one of his war movies. His great-grandchildren were the highlight of his life.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth J. (Rubrecht) Rhubright; his sons Joseph S. Rhubright III (June) of Laceyville, PA and Scott Rhubright (Jeff) of Albany, NY; his granddaughter Kristine Card (Tyler) of Laceyville; step-grandsons Nick Vanderpool (Kristy) and Branden Vanderpool (Eve) of Laceyville; his two great grandchildren, Brayden and Brinley Card who he loved dearly; his step great-grandchildren Taylor, Jada, Nicholas, Tacoma, and Quinn Vanderpool; and his sister Judy Renner (Howard) of White Hall, PA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-great-granddaughter McKenzie Vanderpool who died March 7, 2014.

At his request, there will be no public services. A private service will be held for his family with military honors.
