Joyce M. Melan, age 84, of Laceyville (West Auburn), passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, September 19, 2017 at The Gardens at Tunkhannock, PA.

Born in Rush, PA, on October 3, 1932, she was one of six children, born to William and Jennie Mason. Growing up in the Rush area, Joyce was a graduate of the Rush High School, with the class of 1950. Joyce was the beloved wife of David J. Melan Sr. Just recently they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary, married on August 24. 1951.

All of her life, Joyce was a housewife and homemaker, for her husband and family.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed sewing, cross stitching, knitting, cooking, for her family. In her spare time, Joyce also enjoyed playing cards, solving cross word and jig saw puzzles, but most of all, just spending time with her large family and many friends.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, David Melan Jr., of Dushore, PA; Eileen and Dave Dymond of Tunkhannock, PA; Michael and Judy Melan, of West Auburn, PA; Colleen Newell, of Springville, PA; Kevin and Ann Melan, of Mehoopany, PA; and William and Amy Melan, of Tunkhannock, PA, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Edward Melan, on February 10, 1998; a granddaughter Michelle Melan, on June 27, 1994; a grandson Anthony Melan, on June 28, 1994, and her two brothers, Edward Mason and Clifford Mason; and her three sisters, Helen Moreno, Thelma Young and Gloria Webber.

Funeral services will be held on Friday evening, September 22, 2017 at 7:00 PM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St., Laceyville, PA, with Rev. Charles Bishop, of the Transue Community Church officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Beaver Meadows Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 PM until the time of the service.
