IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathy Brown
Kline
February 10, 1952 – May 6, 2024
Kathy Brown Kline, 72, of Laceyville, PA, passed away May 6, 2024, at Bradford Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a short illness. Kathy was born February 10, 1952 at the Mountain Home AFB in Idaho. She was the daughter of Robert and Kathryn Brotzman Brown. As a military family, they moved many times throughout the years, but always enjoyed summer visits with their grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins in Pennsylvania.
Upon her father's retirement from the Air Force in 1967, the family returned to Bradford County and settled on a farm on Oak Hill just outside of Sugar Run. Kathy graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School in 1970 and began working for the FBI shortly thereafter. This was a job she thoroughly enjoyed. Some 50-years later, she could recall in vivid detail her job duties, the office building and life in Washington, DC.
She married Jack E. Kline, Sr. on September 29, 1972. They made their home in Landover, MD and Kathy continued to work for the FBI until they purchased the Brown family homestead just outside Jenningsville, PA from her grandparents, Claude and Edna Brown, in 1975. Kathy then began working for Dietz's Clothing & Sporting Goods in Wyalusing. In 1991 the business evolved into Dietz's Monogramming and a few years later screen printing was added. She continued with this business until just a few months before her death.
Kathy loved bowling in the Wednesday night ladies bowling league at Mountainside Lanes for several years; as well as their trips to the State Tournament. She also enjoyed volunteering for many years in the Bingo Tent at the Wyalusing Firemen's Carnival.
For several years she also offered tuxedo rentals and was very conscious about keeping her prices low so all members of a wedding party or prom-goers could afford to rent a suit. Most customers had no idea the lengths she went to in making sure their event would be picture-perfect. On more than one occasion she drove over six hours roundtrip to pick up or exchange items due to a vendor error - just to make sure everything was exactly what the customer wanted. During prom season, she made numerous trips to local schools to take measurements, deliver and pickup tuxedos - all because she wanted to help out the students and their parents and save them "the trip to town".
Personal possessions, a fancy house or car and traveling were not important to Kathy. She derived more pleasure from being able to help others. For many years she made Letterman's jackets for Wyalusing and other surrounding schools and offered these at just a few dollars above her cost so each student would have the opportunity to own one. Most people were not aware of the shirts and other items she provided at-cost (or free) to various local organizations. One group that held a special place in her heart was the RTL Little League Association. She worked tirelessly (sometimes through the night) to make sure their shirts and hats looked sharp and fit perfectly. She did all of things because she wanted to and did not want any recognition for it.
There is an old customer service adage, "Good, Cheap, Fast – pick 2, you can't have all 3". Anyone that was familiar with Kathy knew she chose to focus on the first two – you were going to get an excellent product at an affordable price, it just wasn't going to be fast!
Perhaps what Kathy enjoyed most in life was conversation. She loved visiting with anyone and everyone that stopped by – customers, parents, students, coaches, UPS and FedEx delivery drivers, local and out-of-town hunters coming in for a hunting license, friends and relatives. A quick five minute visit could easily turn into an hour or more!
After almost 50 years there, one thing is certain - Main St. Wyalusing will never be the same.
Kathy was predeceased by her husband, Jack (November 3, 2016) and her parents, Robert (March 14, 1993) and Kathryn (January 15, 1997).
She is survived by her siblings: James (Debra) Brown of Wyalusing, Jane (Mark) Dietz of Sugar Run, Karla (Dean) Salsman of Laceyville and Jan (Kathy) Brown of Wyalusing.
