Mr. Kenneth George O'Connor, 81, of Senate Street, Wyalusing, PA, passed away at home early Saturday, January 3, 2015, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Kenny, as he was called by family, was the devoted husband of Beverly "Becky" Jean Roof O'Connor, recently celebrating 57 years of marriage.
Kenneth was born on March 1, 1933, son of the late Paul and Anna Laura Cole O'Connor of Herrickville, PA. He graduated from Wyalusing High School in 1951, and entered the United States Army in 1954. He was later honorably discharged in 1956.
On October 18, 1957, he wed Beverly Jean in the Rome United Methodist Church and resided in Herrickville, PA for 46 years before moving to Wyalusing in 2003.
Kenny was employed by Pipher's Diner and the Asplundh Tree Company prior to joining GTE/Sylvania in 1964, where he retired after 30 years of service. Kenny was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather that enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a caring individual always willing to lend a helping hand to his community and friends. In his earlier years he was active in the Herrickville Volunteer Fire Company and also acted as a Herrick Township Supervisor. Kenny was an avid outdoorsman, long-time Wyalusing Rams wrestling fan, and enjoyed attending Penn State football games with his friends and family, especially his grandsons. In addition, he was a former member of the American Welding Society, Towanda Elks Lodge Post 2191, and was a current member the Wyalusing American Legion Post # 534.
Surviving are his loving wife, Becky; children, Gail and husband Jack Vanderpool of Laceyville, PA, Greg O'Connor of Wysox, PA, Scott O'Connor of Wyalusing, PA; grandchildren, Alicia Terascavage of Norwich, NY, Shane Terascavage of Wilkes-Barre, PA, and Brad and wife Miranda O'Connor of Monroeton, PA. Kenneth is also survived by nine sisters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers.
Funeral services to honor Kenny will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 3:00 PM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church St., Wyalusing, PA with Kenny's nephew, Edward O'Connor officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the members of the Wyalusing American Legion Post # 534 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Camptown Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 until the time of the service.
