IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry Ronald
Kneller
June 10, 1944 – January 10, 2025
Larry Ronald Kneller passed away peacefully at home on January 10, 2025 at the age of 80. Born June 10, 1944, he was the son of Cyrus E. and Myrtle (Fenton) Kneller of Colley.
He attended the one-room Hollenback School and then went on to graduate from Wyalusing Valley High School, where he participated on the wrestling team.
Larry retired from OSRAM Sylvania after a 35 year career as a technician and expert problem solver in plant services. Before joining Sylvania, he worked on nearby farms, his uncle Gordon's construction company, and at American Meter in Wyalusing, where he made several lifelong friends, including his future wife, Marilyn.
Larry's work career was interrupted for two years while serving his country in the U.S. Army. He received specialized training at Ft. Gordon in Georgia and spent a year-long tour in Vietnam deploying field communication systems for U.S. forces. During his final holiday leave, he married Marilyn and completed his two year enlistment at Ft. Knox, KY.
Community was very important to Larry, and he treasured the many friendships he made in his activities. For decades he was a member and trustee of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church, taking on many projects to maintain the church and parsonage. He was active in the Wyalusing Valley Volunteer Fire Department, working on the Annual Firemen's Carnival, directing traffic during emergencies and events, and helping to clear roads after late night storms. He filled the role of Emergency Management Coordinator for the Wyalusing Township Supervisors. He also was a 50+ year member of the Wyalusing American Legion.
Larry enjoyed many lifelong activities at home as well. He loved to play cards with his family and take long walks with his dog. He was an avid gardener, practicing organic gardening before it was popular. He managed the forest around his home for firewood and to produce lumber for his woodworking projects.
Throughout his life Larry was always optimistic and had a great sense of humor. Even in his final year, Larry frequently surprised his family with truly clever jokes that cut through his health condition.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, of 58 years, Marilyn, his sons, Larry Jr. (Mihaela), Leon (Dawn), and Larry Jr.'s daughter Antonia. He is also survived by his sister, Marjorie K. Stringer, sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Lee) Kneller and Peggy (Norman) Huffman, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Samuel, Keith, sister-in-law, Robin (Samuel), and his twin, brother Lee.
A Memorial Service for Larry will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church Street, Wyalusing with Rev. Helen Learn officiating. Military honors will begin the service and be conducted by the members of the Wyalusing American Legion Post 534. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place at a later time, at the convenience of the family, at the Wyalusing Cemetery.
