Obituary

Larry Max Whitney, age 66, of Meshoppen, PA, passed away unexpectedly Monday, May 29, 2017 at his home.

Larry was born on October 7, 1950 in Sayre, PA, the son of Kay Louise Arey Ross of Dallas, PA formerly of Meshoppen, PA and the late Max B. Whitney. Larry was a graduate of Elk Lake High School with the Class of 1968.

He was a logger for over 40 years until an accident disabled him 20 years ago. He was self-employed along with his son at Whitney Logging of Clapper Hill and later worked for Baker Logging of Wyalusing, PA. He was also employed by Bill Chambers Excavating of Mehoopany, PA, where he operated heavy equipment. In his earlier years, Larry also worked at the Whitney family farm, Whitney saw mill, and also the family stone quarry with his father on Clapper Hill. Larry enjoyed woodworking, stone-working and gardening. He also liked to restore and refurbish old antiques. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as he hunted moose in Newfoundland and fished in Canada.

Besides his mother, Larry is survived by his son Jeremy Whitney of Laceyville, PA; sister Sharon Whitney Sickler of Tunkhannock/Simpsonville, SC as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Larry was preceded in death by his father Max B. Whitney, who passed away on March 25, 1989 and his step-father Clymer "Bear" Ross, who passed away December 11, 2001.

A memorial service for Larry will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Russell Hill United Methodist Church with Reverend Jerry Mattocks of the church officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family in the Beaver Meadows Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Larry's memory to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Larry's arrangements were entrusted with Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main Street, Laceyville, PA.
