Lawrence (Larry) Walter Overfield, age 70, of Meshoppen, PA passed away Saturday afternoon, October 11, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
Larry was born in Meshoppen, PA on September 19, 1944, the son of the late Joseph P. (August 24, 2002) and Virginia Jennings Overfield (July 27, 1989). He was a graduate of the Elk Lake High School Class of 1963. Larry proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
Larry married the former Jane Hitchcock on August 9, 1980 and together they had three daughters. Larry was a truck driver for Notarianni and many other local trucking companies in the area. He was a member and past commander of the Rought Hall American Legion Post #510 in Black Walnut, PA. Larry was also a member of the B&L Wrecking Crew and Towanda Gun Club. He was a former member of the EMA of Auburn Township and Laceyville Ambulance as well. He loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing with the boys. He enjoyed baking and consuming his "hydraulic sandwiches." Larry spent time volunteering at his local American Legion. But most of all he loved spending time with his family especially his girls.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Jane Overfield of Meshoppen, PA. Also surviving are his daughters Brenda and husband Victor Reyes Jr. of Meshoppen, PA; Kristie and husband Fred B. Baker III of Meshoppen, PA; Katie and husband Joshua Franklin of Meshoppen, PA; grandchildren Conner Welch, Riley Baker, Addison Reyes, and Lilly Franklin; and great granddaughter Harper Lee. Larry is also survived by many sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews, which he loved very much. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Richard Overfield (December 21, 2001) and a niece Stephanie Overfield (October 29, 1997).
A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 4:00 PM at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Meshoppen, PA with Reverend Charles Bishop of the Elk Lake and Transue Community Churches officiating. Military Services will be conducted at the conclusion of the memorial service by the members of the American Legion Gardner-Warner Post #154 in Elk Lake, PA. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 2:00 PM until the time of the service.
