Mr. Lewis Stephen Smith, age 70, of 391 McMicken Rd., Meshoppen, PA. passed away at his home surrounded by his family, in Meshoppen twp., on Thursday evening, August 9,2012, after a long illness.
Louie was born in Meshoppen, PA. on November 1,1941, the son of the late Burton Lewis and Harriet May Storey Smith. Growing up and spending all of early life in the Meshoppen area, he was a graduate of the Elk Lake High School, class of 1959. After graduation, he served his country with the US Army, from August 1960 to Jan 1961, he would later serve in the US Army Reserves until June 1966.
For over 20 years, Louie was a machinist, at many companies, in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. For over 10 years, he and his family owned and operated Pristine Manufacturing, a UV Water Treatment Company.
In his spare time, Louie enjoyed golfing in which he took great pride in lowering his handicap, and becoming very good over the years. Since relocating back to the area, he also enjoyed his driving range at his home. Louie also spent a lot of his spare time hunting and fishing.
Surviving is his wife the former Susanne Tokach Smith, of Meshoppen, PA. and his sons, Stephen L. Smith of Meshoppen, PA., and Theron J. and his wife Mary Smith of Enola, PA., and his grandchildren, Ian Hunter Smith; Trevor Lewis Smith and Annie Smith. Also his two brothers, Burton Robert and his wife Kathy Smith, of South Auburn, PA.; Samuel Joseph and his wife MaryLou Smith of Meshoppen, PA.; and his four sisters, Sharon Thorpe, of Camp Hill, PA.; Hollis Jane Vaow, of Laceyville, PA.; Lorie Anderson, of Laceyville, PA. and Lana and her husband Sidney Davies, of Meshoppen, PA., and several nieces and nephews.
Abiding with the wishes of Louie, a private family memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 19,2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Meshoppen Rod and Gun Club, Byrd Hill Rd., Meshoppen, PA. Interment will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Tunkhannock, PA. at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations to the charity of the donor's choice.
