Lorraine Marie Hunter White, age 89, of Meshoppen, PA passed away, Wednesday, September 14, 2016 with her family by her side at the Golden Living Center in Tunkhannock, PA.

Lorraine was born on September 19, 1926 in Tunkhannock, PA the daughter of the late Carl (d. Sept. 22, 1964) and Catherine Herman Hunter (d. March 21, 1989). She graduated from Meshoppen High School with the class of 1945 and attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse in Scranton Corners.

She was employed at the Endicott-Johnson Shoe Factory in Tunkhannock, PA where she met her husband William E. White. They married on June 14, 1952 (Flag Day). After they married and began to have children she became a housewife and homemaker for her family. She also was a babysitter for many local families.

Lorraine was a member of the Meshoppen United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School there for many years. For the last 10 years she attended Skinners Eddy United Church. She was a member of the South Auburn Grange #1188. She enjoyed to can vegetables, nature and sitting by the campfire. She thoroughly enjoyed to sew and taught many of her grandchildren that skill. She loved to spend time with family. Lorraine was the most loving person that you would ever want to meet.

She is survived by her children and spouses, Mark and Linda White of Laceyville, PA, Dave and Cindy White of Meshoppen, PA, Linda and Gerald Pallis of Lake Carey, PA, and Kevin White and his fiancé Betty Ann Grochal of Meshoppen, PA; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter. She is also survived by her siblings and spouses, Norma and Phil Corey of San Diego, CA, Phyllis and Ben Cole of Meshoppen, PA, Frank and Diane Hunter of Meshoppen, PA, Donna Manning of Conklin Forks, NY; her brother/sister-in-law Robert and Geraldine White of Stevensville, PA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. White on May 19, 2009, her brother-in-laws, Guy Manning, Chuck Hebner, and Gerald White; and her niece Kathy Hebner.

Funeral services for Lorraine will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 9:00 AM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, SR 6, Meshoppen, PA with Reverend Jon Buxton of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Overfield Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 8:00 AM until the time of the service.
