Obituary

Louise Becker Way, long time resident of Wyalusing Township, passed on to be with her Lord the morning of December 24, 2023 at the Sayre Health Care Center in Sayre, PA.   Louise lived on Stagecoach Road, Wyalusing for 59 years.  Due to declining health, from July 2017 until November 2021 Louise was a resident of Robert Packer Towanda Personal Care home in Towanda, PA.   As her condition declined, she was moved for a short time to Brookdale Vestal West in Vestal, NY, then in February 2022 relocated to Sayre Health Care Center in Sayre, PA.

Louise was born June 28, 1932 in Flushing, N.Y., the daughter of Walter Becker Sr, (d. Sept. 9, 1980) and Annalease Bieber Becker (d. May 12, 2009). The family lived on Long Island, N.Y., then later moved to New Jersey, and from there to the Dushore area of PA.  She met Stanley E. Way, Sr. at a square dance in the early 1950's and they were married on February 17, 1951 at the Zion Evangelical Church in Dushore.  After they married, Louise and Stanley lived for a time in Elmira, N.Y., then purchased the property on Stagecoach Road, Wyalusing in December of 1958.  Louise lived on this property for 59 years, until moving into the Towanda Personal Care home in July 2017.  While Louise & Stanley lived on the small farm on Stagecoach Road, they raised a number of animals including beef, sheep, and pigs.  Many times, Louise would bring in the lambs that were abandoned by their ewes into the house and bottle feed them until they were old enough to go back to the barn.  Louise helped Stanley on the farm where she could.  Many summers she drove a hay wagon filled with hay bales pulled by a Farmall narrow front end tractor down the hill behind the barn, nervous about getting to the bottom intact, but Stan would always say "you can do it."

Stanley became sick at work in September 1971, and passed away on September 16, 1971 at Towanda Memorial Hospital from an unknown illness.

Louise absolutely loved gardening. She always had a fantastic large garden, canned and froze her families' vegetables, made jellies and jams, as well as canning venison when in season. Besides being an avid gardener, Louise was a great cook, loved baking wonderful desserts for her family, and preparing great dinners. Her lemon cream pie was one of Stanley's favorites. She said after their first date, Stanley went back to her house and ate nearly a whole pie by himself!   Her cinnamon rolls and homemade bread were a family favorite, along with apple and blueberry pie.  She also crotched and sewed, making many of her own clothes. When her daughters were young she was a Girl Scout leader. She was a member of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church for years, then in the mid 90's became a member of the Camptown Community Church.

Louise and Stanley had four children, three daughters, Susan, Shelley, and Wanda, and a son Stanley  Jr., who died in a tragic auto accident on September 7, 1979.

In the summer of 1973, Stanley's brother, James who lived in Colorado at the time, came East.

He stayed the summer and Louise and Jim established a friendship and were married on October 20, 1973. Louise and James were married for nearly 20 years, James passed away on October 1, 1993. Louise and Jim took many road trips to Colorado and the mid-western states, staying in rural cabins and fishing along the way. She accompanied Jim to several Insurance Sales meetings held in Virgin Island resorts.

The last weekend of June each year, first with Stanley and the four children, then in later years with Jim, the family would attend the Way Family Reunion, at that time held in Curwensville, PA where Stan's family was from.

Louise graduated from the State Beauty School in Williamsport, PA and in October 1981 she obtained her PA State Cosmetology License. She operated a Beauty Shop at her home for over 10 years.  After closing the shop, she obtained her School Food Service Certificate and worked

in the cafeteria at Wyalusing School District for many years. After retiring from the School District, she was part of the Green Thumb program for Seniors and worked at Barclay Friends School under this program for 2 years. In 2000 she was honored by Barclay Friends School for her many contributions to the school.  In later years Louise volunteered at Towanda Memorial Hospital in the skilled nursing unit, serving snacks to the residents and even trimming, washing and setting hair for some of the ladies.

Louise is survived by her three daughters, Susann M. Way, of Aurora, CO.; Shelley Way DiSerio, Johnson City, N.Y.; Wanda Way Stahl (husband Lee), of Evergreen Road, Ulster; and  three grandchildren:  Annalease Way Donald (husband, Seth), Rebecca DiSerio Morales (husband, Jovite), and John Stanley DiSerio;  a sister, Ruth Becker Higley, Upland, CA.; sister–in–laws Dolly Becker, Penn Valley, CA, Joanne Puterbaugh, Friendsville, PA,  Linda Puterbaugh, Rome, PA, and Lucretia Way, Sugar Run, PA,  along with three great-grandchildren, Isaiah Way, Gage Donald, and Gregorio Morales, several cousins and many nieces and nephews.

Louise was predeceased by husbands, Stanley E. Way, Sr,. September 16, 1971; and James B. Way, October 1, 1993; son, Stanley E. Way, Jr., September 7, 1979; parents, Walter Becker Sr., September 9, 1980, and Annalease Becker, May 12, 2009; and a brother, Walter Becker, Jr., January 19, 2004.

Louise left this earthly life at 11:20 AM on the morning of Christmas Eve, in time to celebrate Christmas with Jesus in heaven. She is reunited with her family and they are celebrating in Heaven above!
