Mabel Eleanor Brotzman, age 92, died peacefully in her sleep on February 26, 2017 in Hilo, Hawaii.

Mabel was born on April 28,1924 near London England. She was 15 years old when Great Britain entered the second world war. After finishing school she worked in London as a telephone operator during the war years. In 1942 she met her future husband, Elwood H. Brotzman, an airman with the 306th bomb group station in Thurleigh England. Elwood was shot down and captured by the Nazis in 1943. Within a month of his liberation from POW camp Elwood and Mabel married in May of 1945.

In December of 1945 Mabel moved to the United States and became a US Citizen. Together Mabel and Elwood operated a small dairy farm and raised three children, Paul, Patrica, and Catherine.

After retirement Elwood and Mabel traveled the country in their motor home and ultimately settled in Homestead Florida where they enjoyed the warm weather and fishing until Elwood passed in 2001. Following her husband's death Mabel moved to Virginia, then to Colorado and finally to Hawaii where she spent the last 5 years of her life.

Mabel is survived by her son Paul and daughter-in-law Amy Brotzman of Hilo, HI; her daughter Catherine Brotzman of Boulder Colorado, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mabel will be buried with her late husband at the Lacey Street Cemetery in Laceyville, PA on August 19, 2017
