Martin "Kenneth" Slabicki, 76, of Wyalusing, Pa, passed away at his home in his sleep, on Friday, November 21, 2014.
He was born to the late Martin and Agata Slabicki on January 14, 1938, in Trenton, New Jersey. Kenny graduated from Hamilton High School in Trenton, New Jersey with the Class of 1956. He served his country in the US Navy from 1957 - 1959 as a MMLFN (Machinist) aboard the USS Leyete. He graduated from the New Jersey Police Academy and was employed as a Sergeant in Hightstown, NJ for ten years. He married Marie "Linda" Liedtka Slabicki on January 21, 1961. They lived together in Trenton, NJ, before relocating to New Albany, Pa in 1977.
Kenny was a hardworking and energetic man. In addition to being a Police Sergeant, he owned and operated the Lovelton Hotel, Lovelton, PA and was also employed by Atlantic Products in Trenton, NJ, Miller Automotive in Dushore, PA and John Preston Logging in Wyalusing, PA.
Kenny loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping trips with his family. Deer hunting with his NJ childhood buddies, Frank "Mop" Peterson, sons Ricky and Jeff, the late Cliff Willever, sons Cliff and Todd and John "The Greek" Niagas was the highlight of each and every autumn for many years. His other passion in life was cars. He enjoyed going to NASCAR and Modified car races. He took great pride in his own vehicles. He collected several antique cars throughout his life and each one was spotless and in tip top condition. Finally, he enjoyed mowing the lawn. Acres of grass would be shorn each year. His accomplishments were immortalized by the Google Earth crew when he carved his name "KEN" into the pond bank with six foot letters for posterity.
Kenny is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marie "Linda" Slabicki of Wyalusing, PA; five daughters: Sharon Ambush (James), Mt. Holly Springs, PA; Nancy Slabicki (Rich LaFrance), Wyalusing, PA; Maureen Stanton (Jim), Lenoxville, PA; Janette Slabicki, Harrisburg, PA, Lynn Benka-Davies (Ken), Harrisburg, PA; seven grandchildren: Adam Slabicki, Honolulu, Hawaii; Ruby Slabicki, Pittsburgh, PA; Jessica Preston, Wyalusing, PA; Jordan Preston, Wyalusing, PA; Brooke Preston, Wyalusing, PA; Elijah Benka-Davies, Harrisburg, PA and Zoe Benka-Davies, Harrisburg, PA; sibling Donald Slabicki (Mae) Columbus, NJ; Helen Hess, California, brother-in-law: Richard Liedtka (Eileen), Trenton, NJ; sisters- in-law: Mary Ann Liedtka, Trenton, NJ; Theresa Kashner (John), Trenton, NJ and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son Kenneth Slabicki (May 20, 1964) and his sisters Marie Workman, Alberta St. John, Blanche Tobiasz, Dolly Croke and brother Carl Slabicki.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church St., Wyalusing, PA with Father Joseph Manarchuck of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parrish officiating. Military Honors will follow at the funeral home and will be conducted by the members of the Wyalusing American Legion Post # 534. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
