Mary (Peskin) Weisgold passed away peacefully at The Golden Living Center in
Tunkhannock, PA on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014. Born in New York City in 1918,
she lived a peaceful country life for 96 years. Mary was the daughter of
Benjamin and Rose Peskin. The family moved to the New Jersey countryside
early in Mary's life and began farming. Mary and her sister, Sophia grew up
there together. Early in her life, she began to enjoy the benefits of
country living, gaining an appreciation for classical music and literature
as well as the beauty of nature. All of which would become a major part of
her long and productive life. Her sister Sophia Dubrovsky preceded her in
death in 1978.
Mary married her husband Mark in 1942. They moved to a new farm and began a
poultry enterprise, which included raising free-range chicken.
When this business became less profitable, they sold their farm and Mary
assisted in designing and building a new house deep in the New Jersey woods
near a creek where they spent many days. Here Mary developed into a
self-taught organist, stained glass artisan and accomplished landscape
painter. In New Jersey she was a founding member of the Woman's auxiliary of the Ramtown Fire Company. Love of family caused a subsequent move to the Benton area of
Pennsylvania where Mary again designed and assisted in building a new home,
in the woods and bordering Kitchen Creek. Mary and Mark lived there many
years until Mark¹s untimely death in 1998. She continued to live in her home
until health concerns required a move to Laceyville with her son, Marty and
his wife, Lois. She resided there for two years.
Mary was able to enjoy the country setting at their home by walking the
fields and hedgerows with her dog, Trixy, reading in the sunlight and
enjoying many blissful country naps in the shade.
Due to health concerns, Mary was relocated to the Golden Living Center in
Tunkhannock where she resided for the next nine and one-half years. She was
visited often by her family and cared for with love and consideration by the
staff of Golden Living.
Mary is survived by her son, Martin and his wife, Lois, their children,
Margaret Caines and her husband, Travis and their children, Jace and Marlo,
their son, Marc and his wife, Karen and their daughter, Kendyl; her
daughter, Marjorie Heitman and husband, Michael and their son, Max and wife,
Heather, along with their son, Mason and daughter, Kate DeAngelo and her
husband, Aaron and son, Charlie.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Mary¹s name to your favorite
charity or local organization.

³I¹d like to go by climbing a birch tree and climb black branches up a snowy
white trunk, toward heaven, till the tree could bear no more . . . one could
do worse than be a swinger of birches.² Robert Frost.
³Mary is a gentle name, like the sound of silver bells, like a blue and
quiet flame, like country brooks and ferny smells, a friendly, wistful name
and airy, Mary.² Author unknown, an old friend.
Mom, you touched us all, you will be deeply missed.
