Mary Lou Wood, age 71, of Sugar Run, PA passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at the Allied Hospice Center in Scranton, PA.

Mary was born on March 24, 1954 in Sayre, PA. She was the daughter of Jane English Higley of New Era, PA and the late Kenneth Higley, Sr. (d. April 17, 2015). She was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School with the class of 1973. Mary married Roger A. Wood on June 10, 1977.

She was employed with Proctor & Gamble in the Diaper Department for 17 years. She and Roger then opened the Route 6 Family Tire in Wyalusing and operated the shop for seven years. She was then employed at the Proctor & Gamble Warehouse before retiring after 15 years.

Mary was an EMT with the Wyalusing Valley Volunteer Ambulance for many years. She was an avid hunter, especially with her crossbow and brought home many trophy buck throughout her life. Mary always kept the outside of her house looking immaculate with her garden and spending multiple hours on the mower. Most importantly, she loved to spend time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Roger Wood, Sr.; her children, Lisa Sands of Wyalusing, PA, David Sands of Terrytown, PA, Roger Wood, Jr. and his wife, Theresa of Wyalusing, PA, and Joshua Wood of Sugar Run, PA; her grandchildren, Damian Frazier (Gabrielle), Ethan Sands, Rayne Wood, Logan Wood, Kaylee Wood, Leanna Wood, Brock Wood, Brooklyn Wood, and Luke Wood; her mother Jane Higley of New Era, PA; her sisters, Lois Welliver (Jim) of New Albany, PA, Nancy Bundle (Mike) of New Albany, PA, Carol Henning (Bill) of Mehoopany, PA, Ruth Vanderpool (Sandy Butler) of Dushore, PA, and Ann Lent (Chris) of Herrickville, PA; her brothers, Carl Higley (Lynette) of Virginia, Ken Higley (Kim) of Wyalusing, PA, and Manley Higley (Penny) of New Albany, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her father, she is preceded in death by her father/mother-in-law, Alva and Alice Wood and her brothers-in-law, Alva “Bucky” Wood and David Wood.

Funeral Service for Mary will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026 at 1:00 PM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church St., Wyalusing, PA with Reverend Charles Bishop of the Elk Lake and Transue Community Churches officiating. Interment will follow at the Wyalusing Borough Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, February 2, 2026 from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
