Obituary

Melinda "Mindy" Gene Piccotti, age 68, of South Auburn, PA passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018 after a long battle with cancer.

Mindy was born on April 19, 1949 in Montrose, PA the daughter of the late Eugene T. (d. December 5, 2009) and Dorothy E. Arnold Purdy (d. June 23, 2016). She was a graduate of Elk Lake High School with the class of 1967. She also graduated from the Tri County Barber Institution of Philadelphia.

She was employed with Proctor and Gamble. She owned and operated Custom Cuts in Laceyville, PA. She was the Co-Owner of Ringneck Ridge with her husband, John. Mindy was the Founder of Hunts for Healing. Since 2009, she has dedicated her life to helping wounded soldiers to create a stepping stone to aid in the transition of these selfless heroes back into their neighborhoods and communities.

Mindy was a veteran herself, serving in the US Air Force. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post #5642 in Montrose PA, American Legion Riders Club Post #154 in Montrose, PA and the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion and also its' Auxillary in Black Walnut, PA. She helped start Rought Hall Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, Pheasants Forever, and many more organizations.

Mindy is survived by her husband who she married on June 29, 1996, John Piccotti of South Auburn, PA; her children and spouses, John Aaron and Amy Host of Columbus, OH and April Jean and Chad Messersmith of Harrodsburg, KY; her grandchildren, Ryann Elizabeth Ferguson of Davisburg, MI, Cailyn Host of Columbus, OH, Chelsea Host of Columbus, OH, Casey Host of Harrodsburg, KY, and Makenzy Messersmith of Harrodsburg, KY; her brothers Thomas G. Purdy of South Auburn, PA, Keith A. Purdy (Annette) of Vestal, NY, Blair H. Purdy (Janet) of South Auburn, PA; her sisters, Terry L. Arena (Chris) of South Auburn, PA and Gwen E. Wilcox (Glen) of Tunkhannock, PA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Cindy L. Sweeting.

A Military Honor Service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Rought Hall American Legion Post #510 Bingo Hall, 328 Old Route 6 Road, Laceyville, PA. A Remembrance Gathering will follow until 1:30 PM.
