Nicholas "Nick" Nicholas, age 53, of Monroe Township, passed away on March 29, 2026, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Through his illness, Nick was never alone, his wife stood beside him every step of the way, surrounding him with love, strength, and unwavering support. Their love was a guiding light through even the hardest days.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on August 1, 1972, he was the son of the late Ronald (d. May 23, 2021) and Marie Nemic Nicholas (d. Feb. 12, 2014).
Nicholas Nicholas truly lived up to his unforgettable name - one of a kind in every sense. A jack of all trades, he could fix, build or figure out just about anything, always willing to lend a hand and share his knowledge. He shared those talents throughout his years at Phinney Construction and Baker Excavating, where he took great pride in his work. His craftsmanship and willingness to support others were hallmarks of a life well spent.
A proud graduate of Tunkhannock Area High School in 1990, Nick was not only accomplished in his career but also deeply committed to his community and faith. He was an active member of the Northmoreland Baptist Church, devoting much of his time to the ministry, and a proud member of Pheasants Forever, reflecting his love for nature and conservation.
Nick was a true outdoorsman who found peace and joy in nature. As his health began to limit him, his favorite pastime became rides on the side by side with his faithful companion, Scout, enjoying the simple moments he cherished most. Often on the weekends, you could find Nick picking up milk for Pelton Trucking and TL Powell Transport. Time with his son meant everything to him, and together they enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and making lasting memories.
His life was marked by resilience and gratitude. A special thanks to Jen Morningstar for the incredible gift of organ donation, as he was blessed with a second chance at life, time he cherished deeply with those he loved.
Nick leaves behind a devoted family who cherish his memory. He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Phinney Nicholas (m. Sept. 13, 2003); his son, Ryan Nicholas; his siblings Neil Nicholas (Alyssa), Heather Nicholas (Brian Altenhain), and Desiree Nicholas; his sister-in-law Lori Mislevy (Darren); niece Hannah Mislevy; and nephews Noah and Nate Nicholas. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his special aunt, Barb Kitchen (d. Jan. 24, 2026), who was also his Godmother; and his mother and father-in-law, Patricia (d. Dec 24, 2016) and Orrin “Sonny” Phinney (d. Sept. 12, 2014).
A Funeral Service for Nick will be held at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St., Laceyville, PA 18623 on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at 12 PM with Reverend Kurt Seboe officiating. Family and friends may call at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will follow at the North Flat Cemetery in Laceyville, PA.
Nick Nicholas will be remembered with great respect and affection for his craftsmanship, his generosity of spirit, and his unwavering love for family and the outdoors. His legacy remains a testament to a life fully lived and a heart warmly shared.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nick’s name to the Clyde F. Barker Transplant House, 3940 Spruce St., Philadelphia, PA 19104.
