Obituary

Paul Leon Brown, age 69, of Laceyville passed away while surrounded by his loving family on Monday morning, July 12, 2021 at his home on Glenwood Lane.

He was born in Newport News, VA on January 18, 1952, the son of the late Leon Brown and Simone Josephine Thomas.  Growing up in Bradford County, Paul attended school in the Towanda, Northeast Bradford, and Wyalusing School Districts.  While in school, Paul enjoyed wrestling.

After school, Paul joined the US Army where he was stationed in Germany and served as a Medical Corpsman from 1970 to 1973.  He earned many honors while serving including the National Defense Medal, Expert Grenade Medal, and the Marksman M16 Medal.

Paul was a hard worker who had many jobs over the years.  He spent 10 years working for C.C. Allis and 19 years with Cargill where he retired in 2017 in order to fight his battle with cancer.

He was an avid sports fan who loved watching both football and baseball.  He was a die hard fan of the Pittsburg Steelers and the New York Yankees.  Paul also enjoyed listening to country music.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

Paul is survived by his wife, Susan, whom he married on May 29, 1999; children, James Bown (Tiffany Losee) of Towanda, Jennifer Maxwell (Harry Mader) of Wyalusing, and Todd Parkhust of Laceyville; grandchildren, Miranda, Brittany, Camden, Jace, Skylar, Aaliyah, Amilia, Domonic, Wyatt, and Avery; great-granddaughter, Payton; sisters, Fran Flanagan (John), Marlene Lamphere, Carol Carr (Bill), Darlene Vaow (Terry), and Lillian Caywood; brothers, Dale Putnam (Kathy), and Duke Caywood; sisters-in-law, Patty Strawser, Betty Baily (Ambrose), and Kelly Manning (Buddy); brothers-in-law, Garry Merritt (Cindy) and Joseph Merritt; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Other than his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his sisters, Dawn Liddick, Patty McKernan, Diane McManus, and Michelle Caywood; brothers, Micky Putnam, Walt Putnam, and Milo Putnam; mother-in-law, Gladys Merritt; brothers-in-law, Thomas Merritt, Walter "Sparky" Merritt, Fred Strawser, and James "Bugger" Lamphere.

He was an amazing man who enjoyed spending time with his family and making people laugh.  He will be missed by many.

A memorial service for Paul will be held at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St., Laceyville, PA, 18623, on Monday, July 19 at 2:00 PM with Reverend Charles Bishop officiating.  A Military Ceremony will be held prior to the service and conducted by the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion, the Dennis Strong Post #457 American Legion, and the Endless Mountains Post #3583 VFW.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
