Paul A. Owen, 84, of Rome (Dimon Hill), PA, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 10, 1931 in Auburn Center, PA the son of the late Kenneth and Madge Owen formerly of Stevensville, PA.
He grew up in Rushville, PA, and graduated from Rush High School in 1950. After high school, he enlisted into the United States Army where he proudly served in the Korean Conflict and earned four Bronze Service Stars, a Korean Service Medal, a UN Service Medal, three Overseas Bars, and a National Defense Service Medal. He served from 1951-1954 and completed his career at the rank of Sergeant.
Upon returning to the LeRaysville area, Paul married Donna Anderson Baptiste, became a dairy farmer and raised four children. For 19 years following his retirement as a farmer, he worked as a landscaper with York Landscaping out of Appalachin, NY.
Paul was an avid bowler for 55 years and was recently inducted into the Towanda Men's Bowler's Hall of Fame. He is also remembered for his passion for baseball and 15 years of service as the Potterville Little League head coach. He is a charter lifetime member of the Northeast Bradford Memorial VFW Post 6824 in Rome, PA, where he is a Past Post Commander and former Hall Steward. Also, he was a member of the American Legion Post 534 in Wyalusing, PA.
He is survived by his four children Darlene (Chris) Drake of Brooklyn, PA, Scott (Tosh) Owen of Mineral, VA, Glenn (Donna) Owen of LeRaysville, PA, and Tim (Katja) Owen of Ulster, PA. He is also survived by his younger sisters Joyce Bennett and Eleanor Anderson, older brother Keith Owen, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Duane and Ed Owen.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church St., Wyalusing, PA with Reverend Dave Pitcher of the West Warren Congregational Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Rushville Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 PM.
