Obituary

Peter J. McGee, age 78, of West Auburn, PA passed away on Thursday morning, February 9, 2023 at the Regional Hospital of Scranton with his family by his side.

Pete was born on July 12, 1944 in Philadelphia, PA the son of the late Peter J. (d. January 8, 1989) and Christine MacMichael McGee (d. June 12, 2002).  He was a graduate of the Collingdale High School with the class of 1962.

After high school, Pete served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.  His primary post was on a LCU boat as a Sergeant.

He married the former Jane Gallagher on January 22, 1966 and together they raised three children.  He was employed as an Auto Mechanic in Collingdale, PA for a few years.  He was then hired at Procter & Gamble.  He was employed for 22 years as a Technician before retiring in 1999.

In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and painting.  More recently he became fond of watching food shows on television.  He took great pleasure in tinkering around the house.  Pete always seemed to know how to fix everything. He had knowledge of all home and car fixes, and he was always willing to help his children and grandchildren with anything that needed repair.   Pete also volunteered as a little league coach in 1990 while Chris played ball. He enjoyed watching sports that his kids and grandkids were involved in. He attended as many basketball games, baseball games, and dance recitals as he possibly could up until last summer. He was very supportive and proud of all the kids.

Pete and Jane loved to spend their time dining out, and they loved to go "junking" to the flea markets together. They loved to travel and once spent several weeks traveling the west after Pete retired; a trip that Jane was still reminiscing about the other day while Pete was resting comfortably in the hospital. Most of all he loved the time he spent with all of his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jane McGee; his children, Peter J. McGee III and his wife, Donica, of Lawton, PA, Jennifer McGee-Merring and her husband, Jim, of Brackney, PA, and Christopher McGee and his wife, Courtney Emmons-McGee, of Montrose, PA; his grandchildren, Peter J. McGee IV and his wife, Emily, of Friendsville, PA, Daniel McGee and his fiancé, Felicia Bedford, of Pittsburgh, PA, Jaclyn Susz of Stroudsburg, PA, Jordan Merring of Tannersville, PA, C.J. McGee and June McGee both of Montrose, PA; his great-grandchildren, Harper Jane McGee and Micah Ally; his sister, Linda Burkle and her husband, Richard, of Collingdale, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister and her husband, Christine (d. January 6, 2010) and John Murphy (d. November 19, 2004).
