Phillip Alton Yost, age 88, of Harpursville, NY passed away Friday, February 18, 2022 at his daughter's house in Meshoppen, PA.
Phillip was born on April 8, 1933 in Vestal, NY the son of the late Orey A. and Lulu E. Yost. He grew up in Vestal and later moved to Harpursville, NY where he settled and raised his family.
He was self-employed as a Plaster Mason and a Well Driller for many years. He became the proprietor of the Afton Inn. He attended the Methodist Church in Coventry, NY. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends especially Blackjack and watching western shows and WWII movies. While he lived with his daughter in Florida, he took great pleasure in being the "Pool Boy". He loved his four-legged pal, Spud, and spending time with his family, in particular when they would camp at Southwick Beach.
He preceded in death by his oldest son, Cole Yost (d. Oct. 28, 2018) and is survived by his remaining children, Cindy Yost Wilcox (Ed), Harpursville, NY, Chris Yost, Harpursville, NY, Curt Yost, Nanticoke, NY, Cathie Yost Crawford (Jerry), Meshoppen, PA, Chet Yost (Tia), Glen Aubrey, NY, Christy Yost Tonetti (Vinny), Lake City, FL, Clint Yost, Afton, NY; his daughter-in-law, Sherry Yost, Maine, NY; his step-children, Craig Freeman, Nanticoke, NY, Dennis Rhoades (Teresa), Castle Creek, NY, and Tony Rhoades, Endicott, NY; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and his 1 st wife and life-long friend, Barbara Freeman, Nanticoke, NY. Besides his parents and son, he was preceded in death by his best friend who he loved like a brother, Bernard "Smitty" Smithka (Connie).
A Celebration of Life for Phillip will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 beginning at 2:00 PM at the Hillcrest American Legion Post #1194, 363 West Service Road, Binghamton, NY.
