R. Hewitt "Huey" Sutton, age 76, of Springville, PA passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Florida Hospital in Tampa, FL.
Huey was born on November 29, 1941 in Kingston, PA the son of the late Ralph and Marion Springer Sutton. He was a graduate of Elk Lake High School with the class of 1959.
Huey married the love of his life, Sharon L. Zurn, on August 3, 1963. Together they had a daughter Tammi. Huey and Sharon owned and operated the family dairy farm in Springville, Dimock Twp., PA, Sutton Farms, for over 30 years. He was also employed with Proctor & Gamble for 17 years as a Technician on the Bounty Lines before his retirement in November 2000. After his retirement, Huey became a snowbird and spent the last 18 winters in the Tampa, FL area.
He was a member of the Springville United Methodist Church. He was a very active member and past president of the Pennsylvania Farmers Association. He was in his glory showing cows at the Harford and Wyoming Co. Fair. He won numerous banners and ribbons. He helped many 4-H children pick out, get ready, and show many prize winning animals. Huey spent many hours helping with the Wyoming Co. 4-H and open shows. He enjoyed the last 10 years playing golf. Huey was known for his sense of humor, quick wit and always made people smile.
Huey is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Sharon L. Zurn Sutton; his daughter, Tammi D. Mowry and her husband Chris of Laceyville, PA; his grandsons, Cody Christopher Mowry and Garett Michael Mowry of Laceyville, PA; his siblings, Bette Farr of Mehoopany, PA, Walter O. (Sharon) Sutton of Springville, PA, Calvin Sutton (Sally) of Tunkhannock, PA, Bryce Sutton (Cindy) of Jenningsville, PA, Carol Singer (Bob) of Lake Winola, PA; his brother/sister-in-laws, Francis and Sharon Zurn of New Albany, PA, Lois Lantz of Myrtle Beach, SC, Elsie and John Schmeckenbecher of Wysox, PA, Donna Zurn of Vestal, NY, Liz Kingsborough of Dayton, OH, Melba and David VanDerlyke of Towanda, PA, and Beatrice Elliott of Towanda, PA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his mother/father-in-law, Edward and Elsie Thomas Zurn; his brother-in-laws, Ken Kingsborough and Edward Farr; and his nephew Adam VanDerlyke.
Due to inclement weather the funeral service and committal service for Huey are postponed until Sunday, March 4, 2018 at 3:00 PM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 8206 SR 6, Meshoppen, PA with Pastor Terry Hughes of the Springville United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at the Jersey Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening, March 1, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 PM.
