On the morning of January 7, 2015, R. Lucille VanNest Bride took her husband's, Joe, and daughter's, Kathy, hand to be reunited with the Lord.
Lucille was born on March 12, 1931 in Standing Stone Township, PA the daughter of the late Fay and Florence Trumbull VanNest.
She was a graduate of Towanda High School with the class of 1949. In high school she was a member of the orchestra and the choir.
It was in high school where she met her sweetheart, Joseph E. Bride. She and Joe married in October 1950. Joe passed away on October 26, 2004 after they celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Lucille was employed as a Dental Assistant in Towanda. She also was employed part-time with the Wyalusing Rocket-Courier.
After she and Joe built their own home in 1961 in Wyalusing (Homits Heights), Lucille became a housewife and a homemaker for her family and a babysitter for many other local families.
She was a member of the Wyalusing Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the church choir, taught Sunday School for several years, was the secretary for the UMW for many years and in charge of the UMW mother-daughter banquet. She loved to sing Methodist Hymns. She was a Girl Scout leader and den mother for Cub Scouts for the Wyalusing scouts.
Lucille enjoyed camping particularly after Joe retired in August 1994. Together they went to Colorado and the surrounding states and also camped many times in Cape Hatteras, NC. She and Joe also went on a Hawaiian cruise with Dorothy and Gerald LaFrance that they thoroughly enjoyed. She always adored sending cards to her five great-grandsons. She absolutely loved spending time with her family especially during the holidays.
Lucille is survived by her children, Linda Porter of Sayre, PA and Thomas and wife Becky Bride of Palm Harbor, FL; her son-in-law Steve Adams of Wyalusing, PA; her grandchildren Carrie and husband Joel Zdon of Sheshequin, PA, Corinne and husband Chris McConnell of Youngsville, NC, Dustin and wife Sarah Bride of Panama City, FL, Allison and husband Chris Percy of Trinity, FL, Brooke and husband Joe Hatton of Spring Hill, PA, Monica and husband Adam Ugliuzza of LeMoyne, PA, and Logan Adams of Wyalusing, PA, her great-grandchildren Alexander Zdon and Anthony Zdon both of Sheshequin, PA, Matthew Porter and Jackson Nichols both of Youngsville, NC, and Dante Hatton of Spring Hill, PA; her sister Elizabeth Cook of Wysox, PA; her little buddy, Ben; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her daughter Kathy Bride Adams (April 25, 2012), her siblings and their spouses William and Lillian VanNest, Marie and Edward Parks, Doris and Francis Vought, and Marjorie and Verne Griffis, and brother-in-law Marshall Cook.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Wyalusing Methodist Church with Reverend Bill Westbrook and family friend Marvin Meteer officiating. Interment will follow at the Wyalusing Borough Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church the same day of the service from 10:00-11:00 AM.
