Mrs. Rachel D. Shaw, 92, of North Flat, Laceyville, PA passed away at the Methodist Manor House in Seaford, Delaware early Tuesday morning November 26, 2013 of complications of Alzheimer's disease. Born on January 13, 1921 in Beaumont, PA, she was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Rachel graduated from Mansfield State Teacher's College in 1942. She spent several years as a civilian worker at a US Army Signal Corps depot in Philadelphia and later returned to Laceyville to teach science and home economics at the high school. She met and married Robert Shaw in 1947 and together they spent 3 years in Germany as part of the rebuilding effort after WWII before returning to Laceyville and starting a family. Rachel was an active member of the Braintrim Baptist Church serving with the Awana youth group, missions committee, and ladies work group. In 2010, she moved to Seaford, DE to live with her son and his wife. Earlier this year, she entered the Methodist Manor House assisted living facility.

Rachel is survived by her son Rob and wife Heidi of Seaford DE, and daughters Leslie and husband Randy Wind of Ormond Beach FL, and Laura and husband Mark Romanauski of Philadelphia. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

It was Rachel's wish to not have any calling hours. Funeral services will be held at the Braintrim Baptist Church Monday December 2, 2013 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Rev. Thomas Davis of the church officiating. Interment will be at the North Flat Cemetery in Laceyville.
