Raymond A. Tenasco, age 80, of Terrytown, PA passed away on Wednesday morning, February 28, 2024 after a long illness with his loving family by his side at his home.
Raymond was born on February 6, 1944 in Ottawa, Canada. He was the son of the late Jacko and Philomen Commando Tenasco. He was a graduate of St. John Bosco High School in Maniwaki, Canada. He was a member of the Algonquin First Nation, Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg, Maniwaki, Canada. The Tenasco name means Bluejay (Tenengee) in Algonquin. He truly loved his birds and was always feeding and taking care of their homes.
Raymond was a Construction Pipeliner for 48 years and worked all over the east coast and middle America. He obtained several certification and achievement pipeline installation training program awards. Throughout the years he was employed with Otis Eastern of Wellsville, NY, Joyce Western of Hanover, NY, Worthy Bros. of Wilmington, DE, Delta Gulf Corp. of Shreveport, LA, and Weldon Pipeline of Petersburg, OH.
Raymond was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. He was a strong believer in donating his time and giving back to the community through his membership with the Knights of Columbus of Dushore and the Wyalusing Lions Club and the many different charitable programs that they supported. He enjoyed taking part in the Lions International Pin Club Swap events. He took great pleasure in traveling down south and visit with family and friends. Ray and his wife would travel to the annual pipeline convention in Tennessee and Louisiana. He was well loved and like by all those who had the opportunity to know him. He truly loved family gatherings spending time with family especially his grandchildren and new great-grandson, Wyatt.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Juanita Hoover Tenasco; his children, Tina Clapper (Mark Edsell), of Stevensville, PA, Thomas Tenasco of Quicks Bend, PA, and Timothy Tenasco (Tara) of Raymond, NH; his grandchildren, Daniel Clapper (Keryne Brostoski) of Laceyville, PA, Tehya Tenasco of Boston, MA, Tessa Tenasco of Raymond, NH and Trinity Tenasco of Raymond, NH; his great-grandson, Wyatt Clapper and one great-granddaughter on the way. He is also survived by his brothers/sisters-in-law, Richard and Lila Hoover of Lafayette, LA, Lucretia and Joe Friery of Towanda, PA, and Charles and Doris Hoover of Wyalusing, PA; special nieces and nephews, Shirley Tenasco, Susan and Howard DeContie Shelia and Paul Benarjee, and Rene Tenasco all of Canada; special cousins, Pete and Valarie DeContie and Edward DeContie of Canada; his special friend, Jerry Clapper of Laceyville, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses, Mary and Joe Tolley, Mildred Tenasco, Theresa and John Brascope, Dick and Bertha Tenasco, and Albert and Lena Tenasco; his sisters/brothers-in-law, Mary and Ted Foster and Janet and Russell Price; and Steven Garnsey (Shirley Tenasco's partner).
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM from the St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 245 State St., Wyalusing, PA 18853 with Father Jose Joseph Kuriapilly and Father Joseph Manarchuck officiating with a memorial and luncheon to follow at St. Mary's Hall. Interment will take place at a later date at the Wyalusing Borough Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Ray's name to the St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to St. Labre Lake Indian School, 112 St Labre Way Campus Drive, Ashland, MT 59003, or to St. Joseph's Indian School, PO Box 326, Chamberlain, SD 57326.
