Calvin Shaffer
October 15, 1954 – March 28, 2025
Richard "Rick" Calvin Shaffer, age 70, of Wyalusing, PA, (Taylorville), passed away at the Bradford Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Burlington, PA, early Friday morning March 28, 2025.
Rick was born in Wyalusing, Pa. on October 15, 1954, the son of the late Calvin L. Shaffer (d. September 10, 2003) and the late Doris K. Kunkle Shaffer (d. May 6, 2022).
Living all of his life in Wyalusing, PA. Rick was a graduate of the Wyalusing High School with the class of 1972. After his graduating high school, he along with his father owned and operated the Green Island Farm in Taylorville. Rick and his sons continued to operate the farm after his father's retirement and until Rick's ill health required his retirement.
Rick married the former Vanessa Anderson, on October 15, 1977. They were married for 35 years, until her passing on July 17, 2012.
Rick was a very active member of the Wyalusing Valley Volunteer Fire Co. He served as the Assistant Chief for a number of years, before becoming the Chief in 1999, until 2003, after which he took the office of Vice-President and then becoming President for a year. Rick was also the main force for all of the fire companies chicken barbeques, for the annual Wyalusing Fire Company Carnaval and other special events for the company throughout the year.
For many years, he was a avid bowler, and was a member of many bowling teams at the Mountainside Lanes in Wyalusing, and other leagues throughout the area. Rick and his family, were avid Penn State Football fans attending many games as they were season ticket holders. During his high school years and throughout all of his life, he owned many hot rod cars, a passion he had until the last car that he owned.
Surviving are his two sons, Calvin Shaffer and Ricky (Colleen) Shaffer, all of Taylorville, PA. He is also survived by his five grandsons, Zach, Isaac, Noah, Ethan and Matthew Shaffer, of Taylorville, PA, and his brother Alan Shaffer, of Wilton Manors, FL, also many cousins.
Memorial services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at the Green Island Farm at a later date.
