Robert A. Ermisch, age 79, of Sugar Run, PA, passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2015, at his winter residence in Dade City, Florida. He and his wife, Edie, have spent and enjoyed many winters in Florida.
He was born on March 28, 1935, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, a son of the late Robert C. and Mary Jones Ermisch.
A graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School, he was a member of the Class of 1952. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959. He served on the battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin and the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Ranger.
On December 31, 1955, he married the former Edith Reed. Bob and Edie had a loving and devoted marriage. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary the day before his passing.
Bob was employed by the United Postal Service in Wilkes-Barre, PA, retiring after 30 years of service. During that time, he also was a school bus driver for the Wilkes-Barre area school district for over 15 years.
Early on, Bob's mother's family happened upon this quiet bend in the river. As a young boy, Bob spent time with his parents camping and later owning property in what's known as Quicks Bend in Sugar Run. This seasonal homestead lead to a legacy of five generations of family enjoying time spent with each other and on the beloved Susquehanna River. Bob and Edie and their children spent summers and weekends until it became their full time residence in 1990 after his retirement.
His greatest life pleasure was the love he had for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved entertaining family members, relatives and friends that fondly remember time spent on the patio. Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially small game. He was also a loyal Penn State football fan.
He was an active member of American Legion Post # 534 in Wyalusing, PA; and the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church. Each month, members of Bob's high school graduating Class of 1952 enjoyed social get-togethers.
He leaves surviving his loving and devoted wife: Edith "Edie" Reed Ermisch, at home; daughter Lynn and husband John Petlock, of Sugar Run, PA; a daughter Jill Mullen, of Dallas, PA; a son Robert D. and wife Wanda Ermisch of Laceyville, PA; his nine grandchildren: Jason (Aline) Petlock, of Waverly, NY; Adam (fiancé Sara Tyler) Petlock, of Quicks Bend, PA; Joshua (Diana) Petlock, of Tunkhannock, PA; Rachel (Wes) Sznaider, of Overton, PA; Brian (Dee) Gola, of Scranton, PA; Kelly (Dan) Sleboda, of Dunmore, PA; Kacie Kuchinskas, of Scranton, PA; Dana (Matt) List, of Wysox, PA; Hillary Ermisch, of Laceyville, PA; and his 15 great grandchildren; his close cousin and patio buddy, Stanley Jones, of Quicks Bend, PA; and several additional cousins.
Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be celebrated held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Barry Ballard officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post # 534 of Wyalusing immediately following the service at the Church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Quicks Bend Cemetery, Sugar Run, PA.
