Robert G. Dunbar, age 82, of Meshoppen Creek Rd., Meshoppen, PA died peacefully at Tyler Memorial Hospital on March 17, 2014 after a long illness.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on September 17, 1931 the son of the late William and Clara (Wall) Dunbar.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Uncle George and Aunt Helen Dunbar with whom he lived for several years, a daughter, Donna Lee Meier, a stepdaughter, Sharon Brostoski, and a brother, William Dunbar, Jr.
He is survived by daughters Katy Carnevale, Meshoppen, PA, Cindy Fredendall, Binghamton, NY a son Robert Brown and wife Ruth, Dallas, PA; stepchildren George Thomas and wife Mary, Laceyville, PA and Judy Bauman and husband Mike, Meshoppen, PA; a special young man Paul Fassett whom he loved like a son; a cousin Florence Farrey, Waterbury, CT; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Bob loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and nature walks. He especially loved the late night walks through Slumber Valley Campground with his loving dog and faithful companion, Pierre.
He had many talents and many jobs throughout the years. He was a painter, a carpenter, a merchant mariner, and a handy man, among other things. But his favorite job of all was at Slumber Valley Campground where he spent decades living and working. It was his passion and his home.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 3:00 PM at the Meshoppen Biblical Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Myers of the church officiating.
