Mr. Robert "Bob" M. Madrak, age 74, of Meshoppen, PA, passed away at his home, early Friday morning, January 22, 2021 surrounded by his loving wife and their family.
Robert was born in Taylor, PA, Lackawanna Co., on August 18, 1946, the son of the late Edward J. Madrak Sr. who passed away in 1991 and the late Edna Podlaski Madrak who passed away in 2010. In his youth, he spent time at his parents' summer cottage on the Susquehanna River in Myo Beach in Meshoppen, where he became an excellent water skier
Growing up around Duryea, PA, Bob was a graduate of the Northeast High School, in Duryea, with the class of 1964, he would later attend technical school, and get certified as a mechanic.
After high school, Bob was drafted in the US Army, entering on April 1, 1966 and served until March 12, 1968, during that time he was stationed in Germany. In his 30's he bought 75 acres of land just outside of Meshoppen, when all there was, was trees. He built his house from those trees. In addition to the house, he constructed the road bed to the house, as well as excavated the pond next to the house. He loved bird watching, and enjoyed species identification of birds and other wild life in the surrounding woods. He waged a daily war on the squirrels that infiltrated his bird feeders.
On September 30, 1989, he married the former Theresa Ladyka.
For over 30 years, Bob was employed by PennDOT, in Luzerne County and later Wyoming County, retiring in 2001, as an Auto Mechanic Supervisor.
In his spare time, Bob enjoyed creating things, both useful and artforms, he enjoyed going for walks in the woods, hunting at the top of the mountain, complete with his hand-built hunting shelter. Bob always had his dogs with him, and enjoyed his walks in the Florida Keys, with his dog, Maggie. On the top of his favorite things were fishing, excelling as an angler, with is favorite areas being the Susquehanna River and the Florida Keys. Bob was an expert story teller, listening to live music, especially classic rock, coaching various sports teams for his children, golfing, Coors Banquet Beer, Macallan Scotch, good conversations especially with his family.
Surviving is wife of 31 years, Theresa Ladyka Madrak, of Meshoppen, PA, his two daughters, Robyn L. Madrak Plant, and her husband Derek of Batavia, IL, Emily Madrak of Tulsa, OK, and his son Jeffrey Madrak of San Francisco, CA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Celebration of Life Services and Military Services, will be held at the Rought Hall Post # 510 American Legion in Black Walnut, PA., on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Military Services will begin at 1:30 PM, conducted by the members of the Rought Hall Post# 510 American Legion, the Dennis Strong Post# 457 American Legion, of Tunkhannock, PA, and the Endless Mountains Post# 3583 V.F.W., of Mehoopany, PA. Following the Military Services, food, refreshments and an opportunity to spend time with the family. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Rd., South Abington twp., PA 18411, PA, or to the Wyoming County Cancer Society, 8 Ironwood St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
