Robert Willson Oliver, Sr., age 80, of Wyalusing, PA passed away Sunday evening, January 28, 2018 at his home with his children by his side.
Robert was born on February 24, 1937 in Wyalusing, PA the son of the late Claude C. (d. November, 1968) and Beatrice Willson Oliver (d. December 1975). He was a graduate of Wyalusing High School with the class of 1955.
He married the former Rose McMahon on November 12, 1960 and together they raised three children. Robert and Rose were married for 46+ years before she passed away on September 4, 2007.
Robert was employed as an Auto Body Technician for numerous years. He owned Oliver's Body Shop and also worked for Karsner/Eaton Ford Dealership, Taylor/McCarty Body Shop and Steele's Body Shop. He was a gifted technician and his specialty was restoring muscle and antique cars.
He was a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Church and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, the Wyalusing American Legion Post #534, the National Wild Turkey Federation, and the Grover Hunting Club. He thoroughly enjoyed following the New York Yankees, the NY Giants, and the NY Knicks. He was an avid hunter, especially in the spring for gobblers. Robert enjoyed and excelled playing softball in his earlier years. He also like to golf. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family.
Robert is survived by his children, Gary Oliver and his wife Michele of Muncy, PA, Mary Oliver of Randolph, NJ, and Robert Oliver, Jr. of Lancaster, PA; his grandchildren, Kasie Oliver of Muncy, PA, Abbie Oliver of Durham, NC, Carly Oliver of Muncy, PA, Zachary Fitzgerald of Randolph, NJ, Zayne Fitzgerald of Randolph, NJ, Joshua Fitzgerald of Randolph, NJ, Jordan Oliver of Lancaster, PA and Danielle Hoffman of Lancaster, PA; his sister-in-law, Irene McMahon of New Albany, PA; his special niece Barb Arey of Wyalusing, PA; as well as many other nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Claude Oliver, Jr., Harriet Mahoney, and Betty Allen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM from the St. Mary of the Assumption Church with Father Joseph Manarchuck officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Basil Cemetery with Graveside Military Honors conducted by the members of the Wyalusing American Legion Post # 534. Family and friends may call at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church Street, Wyalusing, PA on Saturday from 9:00 until 10:30 AM.
