Obituary

Mr. Robert Kitson Robinson, age 79, of Tunkhannock, PA, passed away at the Sayre Health Center, in Sayre, PA, on Friday afternoon, October 4, 2024.

Robert was the younger son of Ivan Leslie "Pat" Robinson who passed away on March 24, 1964 and Vuriel Erma Steele Robinson who passed away on May 31, 1992. Robert was born in Waverly, New York, on Nov. 2, 1944. He was reared on the family farm in Albany Twp. attending elementary school in New Albany and graduating in June of 1962 from the Wyalusing Valley Joint Jr.­Sr. High School. During his childhood and youth, he was active in the New Albany United Methodist Church. In the autumn of 1962, he enrolled at the Pennsylvania State University in University Park, PA, graduating in the spring of 1966 with a B.S. degree in Agricul­tural Education and Secondary School Science. As a student he participated in Alpha Phi Omega and Alpha Tau Alpha.  After graduating from Penn State University, Robert was a member of the Armsby Honorary Society and served on the Agricultural Sciences Alumni Society Board.  September of 1966 found him teaching science in the Tunkhannock Area Middle School, Tunkhannock, Wyoming County, PA. He retired after completing thirty-one years in education at Tunkhannock Area School. During that time, and for twenty years after his retirement, Robert was also the Driver's Education Teacher at the Tunkhannock High School (50 years).

Robert was also a very active member of the Triton Fire Co. in Tunkhannock; the Masonic Lodge serving as Master of Evergreen Lodge No. 163, F &  A.M, in Monroeton, PA, from  1974-1975; Keystone Consistory, 32nd degree, AASR, Scranton, PA, being a past officer in the 14th degree; and a member of the General James Potter Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, Coudersport, PA.

Also during his life living in Tunkhannock, Robert served 27 years on the board of the Wyoming County Conservation District, and 13 years on the Pennsylvania State Conservation Commission. From 1978 until 1989 and then again from 2000 until 2024 he was a member of the Tunkhannock Borough Council, and from 2017 until 2023 Robert was the Tunkhannock Borough Council President. From 1992 until 2024 he served on the Civil Service Commission for the Borough of Tunkhannock, and from 2001 until 2024 (23 years) he was very involved with the Tunkhannock Tree Association and then the Tunkhannock Borough Shade Tree Commission. For 19 years, from 2005 until 2024 he was a Certified Arborist. During all of his life while living in Tunkhannock, he was a very active member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church.

For many years, he along with his great friend, Harold Grow, repaired and refurbished many of the antique John Deere tractors for Bartron Supply in Tunkhannock.

Surviving are his two sons, Patrick Kitson Robinson, of Tunkhannock, PA and Todd Richard Robinson of Denison, TX, and his brother Richard Maynard Robinson, of New Albany, PA, as well as his four cousins. Also surviving is the mother of his two sons, Donna L Faux Robinson of Tunkhannock, PA.

Private Family Graveside services, will be held at a later date at the convenience of his family in the Wyalusing Cemetery.

Arrangements were made through the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St. Laceyville, PA.
