Roberta May Learn Gillespie, age 67, of Athens, PA, formally of Wyalusing and Laceyville, passed away at the Athens Health and Rehabilitation, in Athens, PA, on Friday evening, October 6, 2023.
Roberta was born in Meshoppen, PA, on February 25, 1956, the daughter of the late Charles N. Learn, who passed away on October 10, 2004, and Euleta Magee Learn, who passed away on February 6, 1992 . and her stepmother Lucille Carlin Learn, who passed away on January 25, 2007. Growing up in Laceyville, PA, Roberta was a graduate of the Wyalusing Valley High School, with the class of 1975.
For many years, Roberta lived in Laceyville, and later in Wyalusing. After the death of her parents, Roberta lived at many places, including, the Candy French Personal Care Home, in Athens, PA; the West House in Williamsport, PA; the Towanda Personal Care Home; and for the last 4 years, Roberta was a resident of the Athens Health and Rehabilitation.
Throughout her life, Roberta enjoyed all of the time she got to spend with her family and friends. She loved talking to people, loved being with her many residents that she got to live with at the homes that she lived in throughout the years. Roberta enjoyed all of the activities and crafts times, and always enjoyed all of the good fellowships with her many friends. In her younger years, she loved all of her special pets, of dogs and cats, while living on the family farm. Through the years, Roberta had many special furry friends, whether a pet dog or cat, volunteering at the animal shelters, or enjoying animal visits at her places of residence.
Roberta was a member of the Braintrim Baptist Church, in Laceyville, PA., and always enjoyed visiting many different churches with her brother and sister-in-law.
Surviving is her brother and his wife, Eugene and Rev. Helen Learn of Laceyville PA, and also her niece, Natalie, husband Rick, and great nephew, Roger Staron; nephew Nathan, wife Angie, and great nephews Jacob and Aiden Learn; nephew Devin, wife Alison, and great nieces, Olivia and Charlie Pearl Learn; nephew, Gareth Henderson, and nephew Jason Henderson". She is also survived by her stepbrothers and stepsister from the Carlin family, and many cousins from her Learn and extended Carlin family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon, October 11, 2023 at 2:00 PM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St., Laceyville, PA, with long time family friend, Rev. Mark King, officiating. Interment will be in the Lacey St. Cemetery, in Laceyville, PA. Family and friends may call at the funeral home, on Wednesday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donation to the Athens Health and Rehabilitation Activities Fund, 200 S. Main St., Athens, PA 18810.
