Ronald "Ron" George Masters, 87, passed away on the morning of Thursday, December 12, 2024 at the Embassy of Tunkhannock skilled nursing facility after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born on May 17, 1937, in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late William and Anna (Shamberg) Masters. He graduated from Johnson Trade School in 1955 and joined the military in October of 1960. Ron served two years in the U.S. Army and an additional four years in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Ron retired as an electrician from Proctor & Gamble in Mehoopany and had also been a member of the contracted road crew that was pivotal in constructing the portion of U.S. Route 6 in Wyalusing Township in the area of the Wyalusing Rocks. He also co-managed the former M.R.C. Gun Repair sporting goods store in Wyalusing with his son-in law, Ben Chamberlin, from the early 1990s until 2004. Additionally, he was a member of the Black Walnut American Legion Post 510.
In his free time, Ron enjoyed small game and deer hunting as well as fishing, particularly along the St. Lawrence River in Ontario, Canada, where he took annual fishing trips with friends and family for nearly 40 years. While at home, Ron was always content sitting in his favorite chair at the kitchen table playing Solitaire and watching sports on television, particularly his beloved Boston Red Sox, and was always delighted to visit with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as "Pop".
Ronald is survived by his children, Michelle "Micki" [Kenny] Tague of Conway, AR, Cheryl [Benjamin] Chamberlin of Wyalusing, and Ronald W. Masters of Wyalusing, as well as his grandchildren, Dylan and Cain Chamberlin, Drew and Derek Masters, all of Wyalusing Lela [Aaron] Silver of Blowing Rock, N.C., Kendra [Brandon] Rimlinger, and Dominic Tague, also of Conway, AR., his eight great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Ron is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Gene Karpovich of Fairfield, CT, as well as his honorary son, David "Blossom" [JoAnn] Wright of Laceyville.
Besides his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brothers, William [Louise] Masters, Jr., Henry "Gene" [Sharon] Masters, and sister Margaret [Joseph].
Ron's family will be having a private memorial service in the spring.
