Obituary

Ronald W. Sharer, 88, of Stevensville, PA passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at the Guthrie Towanda Skilled Nursing Unit with his beloved brother by his side.

He was a son of the late Walter and Mable Wootton Sharer.  Ronald known as Ronnie, Ron or Red was born on August 8, 1936.  He graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School, a member of the Class of 1955.  Ronnie was a farmer and a logger who devoted his life to the Walter Sharer & Sons family farm. After he stopped milking cows and working in the woods, he cleaned and maintained buses for Sharaton Bus Service, worked part time for Stevens Township, and drove dump truck part time for D.C. Rauscher. He continued to harvest crops and bale hay until his health no longer allowed him the last few years.

Ronnie had his pilot's license prior to his driver's license, and this became a lifelong hobby for him.  He took many family members and friends for a Sunday airplane ride.  He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Tri-County Sports Club, and a lifetime member of the Beaver Meadows Church.  He was an avid hunter and sportsman who cherished the memories of getting an elk on his hunting trip out west alongside his nephew.  He was a reader of the Farmer's Almanac, he bought quail and released them on the farm, had several weather tracking devices and game cameras. He enjoyed traversing the farm in his Kubota side by side.  Ronnie loved a hot dog roast with his family and friends at the cabin overlooking Stevensville.  He loved a visit and time with his great nieces Ashlee and Priscilla Newton of which he was extremely proud of for pursuing their medical and nursing careers.

He is survived by his brother, Kenneth and Nancy Sharer; his brother-in-law, Arden Campbell, sister-in-law, Joyce Sharer; nephews, Rick and Robin Campbell, Randy and Sandy Campbell, Lynn and Christine Campbell, Aaron and Andrea Campbell; nieces, Linda Bennett, Jennifer and Ralph Newton, Jill Sharer and Philip Prater; several great nieces and nephews.  Ronald was predeceased by his parents, Walter H. (d. September 5, 1998) and Mable Wootton Sharer (d. March 27, 1978), his brothers, Ralph W. Sharer (d. June 28, 2007), Howard A. Sharer (d. June 25, 2019), his sister, Norma Jean Campbell (d. January 7, 2024), and a nephew, Steven Bennett (d. December 10, 2022).

The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Guthrie Towanda Skilled Nursing Unit and Guthrie Hospice as well as Sara Romanik who assisted with his in-home care over the past few months.

A Graveside Memorial will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at the Beaver Meadows Cemetery with the Lay Minister Vickie Ellis officiating.
