Rowena Elliott Kuhn of Towanda, 88, passed away after a long struggle with lung disease on January 20, 2025 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Towanda Campus Personal Care Home.

An only child, Rowena Mae Elliott was born in Barrington, NJ on August 5, 1936.  She grew up watching her parents James William and Mary (Madison) Elliott work hard to provide for their family during the Depression and World War II years.  This work ethic became a hallmark of Rowena's life.  She ran a very organized household, worked as the secretary of the First Presbyterian Church in Towanda, and then later became a supervisor in the business office of the Guthrie Clinic.

She walked fast and tackled life with efficiency, but she was also well known for her friendly smile and big laugh.  With her husband Ray (Raymond Walter Kuhn, deceased 2011), she raised two daughters: Marlene Hulsizer of Wyalusing, PA (Kent Kuntz) and Dorry Newcomer of Oreland, PA (Phil Newcomer).  She actively supported all of their activities and especially enjoyed chaperoning Towanda High School Marching Band trips.

Rowena enjoyed being a grandmother to Matthew Hulsizer (deceased 1993), Bethany Hulsizer (Eric Fenton), Wesley Newcomer (Jennifer Roca Newcomer), and Adrienne Newcomer (Earl Judson).  She recently became a great grandmother to Cooper and Eleanor.  In their retirement years, Rowena and Ray traveled extensively through the United States and visited Germany twice.  After Ray passed, she moved to the Airport Senior Community in Sayre.  Her home was decorated with over a dozen beautiful cross stitch pictures she made.  Rowena was also a skilled knitter, a sharp penuchle player, and an avid sports fan.  She especially enjoyed watching golf and tennis, the Little League Baseball World Series, and the Olympics, as well as college and professional football.

A service of death and resurrection will be held at the Valley United Presbyterian Church in Waverly, NY on Saturday, January 25, 2025.  Pastor Sharan Knoell will begin the service at 1:30 pm with a light lunch following.  Burial will be private at the Wyalusing Borough Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Valley United Presbyterian Church, 459 Park Avenue, Wavery NY 14892 or the Robert Packer Hospital, Towanda Campus Personal Care Hom activities fund, 603 William Street, Towanda PA 18848.
