Obituary

Sandra (Sandy) H. McGavin died peacefully January 5, 2022, (following a short battle with lung cancer) at her home in Mehoopany, PA with family and loved ones at her side. She was born in South Ardmore, PA and grew up in Oakmont & Green Lane near Philadelphia. She moved with her parents, Ruth and Lloyd Stanley Hoff Sr, to Wyalusing when she was a junior in high school. She graduated from Wyalusing High School in 1955. Following high school, she remained in the Wyalusing area, very busy at home raising her 4 children. With her kids grown and out of the house, she began working again, and after various bookkeeping jobs, eventually began working at the Proctor and Gamble plant in Mehoopany and retired from there in 1995. After her retirement from P&G, Sandy met Don Miller of Mehoopany, who became her golden years life partner, best friend, and constant companion. She and Don both had a love for flowers and the outdoors. From their home in Mehoopany, they enjoyed gardening/harvesting, watching wild animals of all types (even the occasional bear) roam the property. She became a passionate bird watcher and would watch for hours at a time. In her later years, she came to love weekends, esp. Sundays, when her children, and grandchildren, would all call and chat with her.

Sandy has four surviving children. Fred Walker of Colorado Springs, CO; Mike Walker (Cathi) of Jersey Shore, PA; Terry Frith (Greg) of Cape Coral, FL, and Daniel Brown of Carbondale, PA. She has seven grandchildren and two step-granddaughters: Kyle, Kelsey, Cole, Nicole (Nikki), Ally, Michael, Joshua, Cathrin, and Maxine. She was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren.

Don has four sons that Sandy considered part of her family. Mike Miller of Black Walnut, Richard and Terry Miller of Mehoopany, and Ronald Miller of Tallahassee, FL.  There are also several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Sandy is survived by her sister Rhoda "Barbara" Dudley of Philadelphia along with several nieces, nephews, and very dear cousins.

A memorial service for Sandy will be held at the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion Hall in Black Walnut, PA on her birthday – Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Charles Bishop officiating. A luncheon and a time of remembrance will follow.

Arrangements were made through the Sheldon Funeral Home, 8206 Main St., Meshoppen, PA.
