Obituary
Mrs. Shirley Mae Knowles, age 83, of Shumway Rd., Wyalusing, PA, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Spring Hill, on Thursday, February 15, 2018.
Shirley was born in Baltimore, MD, on October 18, 1934, the daughter of the late LeRoy and Dorothy Goodrich Sullivan. In her younger years, her family moved to the Towanda area, where she would attend the Towanda Area High School. Shirley was the wife of the late Timothy Knowles, who passed away on August 18, 2006.
For many years, Shirley was employed by the Wyalusing Valley School District, working in their cafeteria, starting at the Wyalusing Elementary, moving into the Wyalusing High School, and later being named the Cafeteria Manager at the Laceyville Elementary, finally retiring in 1994.
For many years, she attended the Spring Hill United Methodist Church. In her spare time, she relaxed by watching TV, especially enjoying Law and Order, and spending many hours knitting, cooking and baking, being well known for her homemade breads and rolls.
Surviving are her two children, Pam Miller, of Sugar Run, PA; and Tim and his wife Mary Knowles, of Laceyville, PA. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Christopher Smith of Sugar Run, PA; Melinda Miller, of Wilmot, PA; Brian and Natasia Knowles, of Wyalusing, PA; and Tyler Fenton, of Sugar Run, PA; also several Great-Grandchildren, and one Great-Great-Granddaughter. Shirley is also survived by her sister, Joyce Herrington, of Vass, NC; her two brothers, Mike and Sandy Goodrich, of Williamsport, PA; and Patrick Goodrich, of Towanda, PA; and a sister in law, Charlotte Sullivan, of Towanda, PA. as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, LeRoy (Buddy) Sullivan, and her step-father, Oliver Goodrich.
Abiding with Shirley's wishes, a memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of her family.
