Steve H. Otis, 65, of Wyalusing, Pennsylvania passed away Friday morning, November 24, 2017, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on September 22, 1952 in Meshoppen, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Adelbert H. Otis, who passed away on December 19, 2012 and late Martha Eva (Wells) Otis, who passed away on August 29, 1999. He attended Wyalusing Valley High School.
Steve possessed great love for his family and close friends, doing anything for anyone that needed it. One of his greatest pleasures was spending time at his camper with family and friends. While living in Hollenback he enjoyed working on his farm. He was a member of the Wyalusing Valley Volunteer Fire Department. He also, enjoyed going to auctions, fishing, playing the lottery, detailing his vehicles, organizing his workshop and time spent with his beloved dachshund, Dixie.
He retired in September of 2016 from P & N Packing where he had been a dedicated worker for 38 years. He was highly regarded by the bosses, secretaries and other workers and hardly ever missed a day of work. He also was a social member of the Wyalusing Legion Post 534. The Legion organized a benefit for Steve after his cancer diagnosis and raised money to help with his medical expenses. The community gave generously and showed Steve what a deserving person he was.
Surviving are his children: Jason and Janet Otis of Wyalusing, Mindy Merritt of Laceyville, Betsy Ball of Wyalusing, Valarie Mosier of Nanticoke, Steve and Gyla Ball of Evergreen, Randy and Hannah Deacon of Towanda, Kayla Otis of Standing Stone, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters and their spouses': Irma and Dave Green of Zephyrhills, FL, Shirley and Clifford Woodruff of Laceyville, JoAnne Treadwell of Melbourne FL., Dianna Cresho of Wyalusing, Janet Chaffee of Laceyville. Steve was preceded most recently in death by a brother-in-law, Paul Cresho, who passed away on March 2, 2015.
Funeral services for Steve will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 2:00 PM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church Street, Wyalusing, PA with Lay Minister Vickie Ellis of the Beaver Meadows United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be held at North Flat Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service.
